5 American Broadcasters Who Are Outspoken About Their Faith
By Movieguide® Contributor
While the mainstream media isn’t known for supporting religious viewpoints, many American journalists are Christians who speak openly about their faith. Moveiguide® celebrates our brothers and sisters in Christ who serve as a beacon of light in the entertainment industry.
Savannah Guthrie
TODAY host Savannah Guthrie has a heart for the Lord and is bold about discussing her faith. She’s the author of the faith-based book “Mostly What God Does,” which encourages her readers to find hope and connection with the Lord.
Guthrie sat down for an interview with Celeste McCauley of Guidepost, opening up about her faith.
“I think sometimes people are surprised that my faith means so much to me,” Guthrie said. “But I think that’s less and less true because I’ve talked about it publicly a bunch. If I’m asked, I talk about it.”
She added, “I love talking about my faith. I love talking about God’s love. I love talking about how we all struggle and are on this journey together.”
Guthrie became a believer as a child and discussed her favorite Bible verse, Psalm 23, which her cousin challenged her to memorize at a young age.
“Psalm 23 lives in me,” Guthrie revealed. “My cousin gave me this verse when I was a little girl and told me to memorize it. I have recited it to myself thousands of times and reflected on it morning, noon and night. And lately it’s a verse from Zephaniah: ‘The Lord your God is with you, the mighty warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.’”
Kathie Lee Gifford
Former LIVE! television host Kathie Lee Gifford has been a household name for decades. She’s an outspoken Christian who uses her platform to spread the Gospel. She’s a bright light in Hollywood who hopes to make a difference with every project she’s involved in.
Gifford shared her testimony to host Sadie Robertson Huff on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.
“Ever since I entered this industry in a full-time way, when I was 17 years old, the Lord was very, very clear with me, and He said: ‘Never separate the secular from the spiritual. You live in my world, you live in my world,’” Gifford said. “People will try to say [Hollywood is] secular…[People say] there is such a godless world there. [But] God is everywhere.”
She continued, “I knew every time I walked on a movie set, on a television set, or a recording studio or a stage, or a Baptist church, or Israel or whatever — it was God’s world. And I got the privilege of being in it and walking in it with Yeshua Jesus. And He would be with me whether I was talking to Jay Leno or I was talking to Billy Graham. I had to be authentically Child of God Kathie Lee wherever I went. And when I started separating those two is the only time I ever got in trouble…He created all the world.”
Pete Hegseth
FOX & FRIENDS anchor Pete Hegseth is an outspoken Christian who stands for “family, faith and freedom.” He’s a devoted family man, patriot and author of the book “
Hegseth led “Fox & Friends” viewers in a prayer during a Bible-app-sponsored segment live on the air.
The anchor read an on-screen prayer from the Hallow app.
“Jesus, today we begin the holy period of passion tide,” Hegseth recited. “In these last 2 weeks of Lent, help us understand the mystery of your sacrifice and surrender, make us keenly aware of your love for us. We ask that you make yourself known to us, help us to feel the grace of your presence.”
Hegseth continued, “Help us to feel the grace of your presence. You journeyed to the cross for our sake. May we see ourselves the way you see us and come to believe that we are worthy of your abounding love.”
Hall discussed leaning on the Lord during that challenging time on the “Jesus Calling” podcast.
“I lost my dream job before the public nationally, but I knew it was in God’s hands, and I knew that I didn’t need to do anything other than find peace with it and find my lane. So faith has been a foundation. I think it keeps me peaceful.” Hall said. “The minute I wake my eyes, I say, ‘Thank you, God.’ I don’t know what the day will bring, but I know that I have another day, or at least that moment to be grateful.”
Lawrence Jones
Lawrence Jones, co-host of FOX News Channel’s FOX & FRIENDS, is a mainstream journalist who is outspoken about his Christian upbringing. He calls attention to the Lord on social media and in the press.
“I come from generations of pastors,” Jones told CBN News. “My mom’s a preacher, grandparents are, so the Gospel at large – knowing who Christ is and accepting [Him] into my heart…that’s all I know.”
“You start getting tested,” he said about beginning his career in the news. “For me, the faith walk became real when life became real, and when you’re alone and you don’t have that support system being with you every single day.”
“I don’t find it a struggle to hold on to who God has called me to be and be that person,” he said, adding that he’s “proud to be a believer. We’ve had people from our audience – messages about them crying on Sunday morning, people that haven’t been to church in a while, but we’re bringing church to them in their living room.”
