Hollywood Actresses Who Are Outspoken About Their Faith

By Movieguide®  Contributor

Christian celebrities often face backlash for their beliefs, but these Hollywood ladies are bold about sharing their relationship with Christ. These women use their platform to glorify God and spread the Gospel during interviews or press tours. From Candace Cameron Bure standing up for the traditional family to Patricia Heaton praising God for His hand in her success, these actresses are outspoken about their faith.

Patricia Heaton

Best-known for her role as Debra Barone on the popular ’90s sitcom EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, Patricia Heaton is a celebrity who doesn’t shy away from talking about her walk with Christ. She starred in the faith-based film MOMS NIGHT OUT and produced the pro-adoption film UNEXPECTED with her husband, David Hunt.

The actress has spoken to the press many times about her Christian beliefs. She appeared on “The Storytellers with Andrew Erwin” podcast and reflected on God’s hand in her early career.

“God, in His mercy, withheld any success from me because I wanted it too much,” she said. “[I] really wanted to be famous — acting was the center of my life, as opposed to God being the center of my life, for a long time, and it would have been ruinous for me if I had been successful any earlier than I was.”

Heaton continued, “I think it only happened in the timing it did because I was able to center God in my life, and when that happened, I think He knew it was safe for me to start being successful and have all the things that come with that.”

Candace Cameron Bure

We all know Candace Cameron Bure as the adorable T.J. Tanner on the sitcom FULL HOUSE and the reboot FULLER HOUSE. The actress is currently the chief creative officer at the Great American Family, which creates wholesome content for the whole family to enjoy. Not only has she dedicated her life to Christ, but she’s vocal about her faith.

Bure made headlines when she decided to leave the Hallmark Channel to focus on films based on traditional families. The actress didn’t waver in the face of cancel culture and defended her decision during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” she explained. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”

Danica McKellar

Who could forget Danica McKellar’s iconic character Winnie Cooper in THE WONDER YEARS? The actress worked her way into the audience’s hearts through the television screen, but she truly has a heart for the Lord. She was a mainstay in Hallmark movies for many years but left the network to sign a deal with the Great American Family Network and has consistently been making family-friendly content.

Mckeller discussed her faith journey with CBN News.

“In a nutshell, I’ve always believed in God of some sort, but then I found my relationship with Jesus in a very profound way about a year and a half ago. And it’s been an amazing journey becoming a believer,” she said.

“The joy that comes with that,” the actress exclaimed, “is incredible! I had never really understood before and I’ve been reading the Bible and am reading the whole thing this year.”

Lacey Chabert

Fans of the popular drama PARTY OF FIVE may recognize Lacey Chabert as Claudia Salinger, or we may know her from her role as Gretchen Winesr in the film MEAN GIRLS. These days, she’s often seen on the Hallmark channel after making her debut in 2010. Chabert is another celebrity who openly talks about her Christian beliefs in the media.

Chabert opened up about her faith on Facebook while doing press for the movie CHRISTIAN MINGLE, revealing her strong relationship with the Lord.

“My faith has always been the center of my life…my faith brings me great hope, and I don’t know what I’d do without my relationship with God,” she shared.

Kristin Chenoweth

Kristin Chenoweth found fame when she took on the role of Glenda in the Broadway musical WICKED. She’s a singer, voice actress, dancer and all-around amazing performer. Her talents have taken her both to the big screen in movies and the small screen on television. The performer opened up about her faith journey after surviving a near-death experience when lighting equipment fell on her head while on the set of THE GOOD WIFE in 2012.

Chenoweth reflected on how she chose forgiveness instead of bitterness in the wake of the accident during an interview with TODAY.

“The big question of ‘Why God me?’ When you find yourself asking God, ‘Why me?’ you can also then turn around and ask yourself, ‘Why not you?’” she said.

“It was horrific and scary and awful,” she reflected on her response to the trauma. “Now, I could go on the path of bitterness and anger and I did for a while, I did. But I could let all that go. So guess what I’m going to choose?  “

“I have started forgiving people that I feel have hurt me because I’m the one that’s hurting and that’s God’s grace,” she continued. “He says, ‘See my child, if you’ve done this the whole time, you wouldn’t have carried that on your journey.’”
