Alexa PenaVega Says Actresses Can Say No to Nude Scenes: ‘They Can’t Force You’

Alexa and Carlos PenaVega sat down with Matt and Abby Howard on “The Unplanned Podcast” to discuss marriage, parenthood and their experiences in the entertainment industry.
During the interview, Matt brought up the subject of how much control actresses have on the set when it comes to filming nude scenes.
“Do actresses have a say so in, okay, I love this role, I love this story, but this nude scene, like, that’s not for me,” Matt asked, “I’m not comfortable with it?”
“They do,” Alexa answered.
“So you’ve been able to say that before with roles,” Matt responded.
“So it just depends on the project,” Alexa said before telling the story of an actress who was fine with nudity but changed her mind during the second season. “She realized she didn’t like what came with it. She just felt, like, so exposed. She’s like, ‘I don’t ever want to do that again.’ So when it came time to the second season, she’s like, ‘I’m not doing that anymore,’ and they can’t force you to be naked on set at the end of the day. Like, they can’t force you to do that.”
While Alexa acknowledged that actresses could say they are fine with nudity in a role and then refuse to film it on set, she would not personally do that.
“I think that’s kind of like, a little unfair,” Alexa added. “I feel like depending on, one, where you’re at in your career, and, two, if you can come up with something that would also be like of equal value. Like, for instance, ‘Hey, listen, this scene calls for nudity in the writing, but it will still be just as powerful without the nudity. Here’s why. Here’s how I think we can do it.’ Offer them another angle, and a lot of times they want to accommodate.”
Alexa announced on Instagram that she and Carlos are slated to co-star in their first movie for Great American Pure Flix.
