Alexa and Carlos PenaVega Talk Practicing Four Months of Abstinence

By Movieguide® Contributor

Alexa and Carlos PenaVega sat down with Matt and Abby Howard on “The Unplanned Podcast” to discuss marriage, parenthood and their experiences in the entertainment industry.

The couple revealed they are practicing four months of abstinence during pregnancy and postpartum after Matt posed this question: “I was overhearing, though, do you guys have to be abstinent for four months in marriage?”

“Well, basically, what happened was we’re about to have our fourth child, number four,” Carlos said. “We had a little scare the other night. She [Alexa] basically had to go to the hospital. We thought the baby was coming early. There was a little bit of blood. Like, oh no, what’s going on? Baby’s okay, mommy’s okay.”

“Basically what happened — I wasn’t doing anything strenuous. I was literally just cooking in the kitchen, I wasn’t stressed,” she said in an Instagram video. “And it was almost like a gushing feeling, like my water breaking. There was so much blood.”

PenaVega continued, “In that moment, I was [thinking] about having this peace, that God just allowed me to stay okay and stay confident in Him because, at the end of the day, it was out of my control.”

Alexa shared that she had been having contractions but was only 32 weeks pregnant. “I’m trying not to go into labor right now,” she explained. “Carlos had been out of town for the last two weeks dealing with a couple of things, and he came back to all of this, and obviously, we’d already abstained for two weeks, and the doctor said that abstain until I give birth but then after you give birth you can’t [be intimate] for six weeks.”

Carlos jumped into the conversation. “Here’s the dilemma I’m having. We want the baby to come later because it’s healthier for the baby,” he continued. “Let’s hope to get to 34 or 35 [weeks]. The longer that the baby takes, it’s prolonging me, too.”

“It’s okay, the baby could come now. It’s fine,” Alexa interjected.

“If the baby comes today, then that six weeks starts today versus six weeks from now. Is that wrong? I’m kidding,” Carlos quipped.

The couple has been open on social media about their pregnancy journey, and Alexa posted an update on Instagram after the scare.

“I just want to tell you guys that I’m feeling great. I’m doing really well,” she began. “I went through a really, really rough first trimester…”

PenaVega was told not to move in order to heal the tear, which she found “frustrating” and difficult, as she was “going through the worst morning sickness I had ever gone through. What I was going through…was so rough on my body and I really do feel like it slowed down my healing process of this tear because I would just be hovered over the toilet or the sink.”

“It was really miserable and I was really frustrated because I just wanted to heal. I wanted to know for sure my baby was going to be safe. I wanted to know that I’m going to be safe,” she continued.

The couple announced the pregnancy last November.

“Thank God we love adventures 😍😍😍 Oh baby here we come! Número cuatro!” the PenaVegas, who are parents to Ocean, Kingston and Rio, posted on Instagram.
