Christian Artist’s Daughters Inspire His New Project, and It’s Not Music

Christian artist Colton Dixon opened up about his exciting new projects, from a new song to a children’s book based on one of his biggest singles.

“These last couple years have been amazing. But, man, there have been several times where I’m like, ‘Man, I’m just, I’m gassed,’” he told ChurchLeaders. “I know [that] I need to be out here doing this — juggling career and family and God, and trying to keep the priorities in order of God, family, career has been really difficult for me these last couple years, if I’m honest. And something that I found myself doing more and more of was just resting in the love of God.”

Dixon said the “wave of assurance” he feels from God’s love is “the inspiration behind this new [song],” titled “The Love I Have For You.”

“I kind of write songs for me, and I’m just blown away and thankful that they connect with other people as well. So if you’ve ever felt like you’re running on fumes, this one’s gonna be for you,” he said.

Dixon opened up about the track in a statement, saying it was influenced by Romans 8:37 — “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

“I felt like being just a ‘conqueror’ would’ve been okay, but He says, ‘You’re going to absolutely get through whatever you’re facing because of how much I love you and the love you carry within,’” the artist explained. “I can get into striving mode as a creative, and it trickles into other areas of my life. Resting in the fact I’m loved by the creator of the Universe is special though. The song reminds me with God’s love there’s nothing I can’t tackle.”

Dixon also recently released a kids’ book, titled “Build A Boat.” The book, named after one of his biggest songs, was inspired by his daughters, as well as the amount of children he sees at his concerts.

“This book was an opportunity to [explore the gospel], not only for my own girls, but for anyone who’s willing to listen and read,” he told ChurchLeaders.

Dixon shared that the book is about two little girls who want a dog and believe they will get one. When they ask their parents, the girls are told that “faith is more than just hoping for something…faith requires action.”

“And of course, you can probably guess the way the story ends,” Dixon concluded.

The singer-songwriter has previously spoken about how becoming a father deepened his faith, telling ChristianHeadlines, “We’re heirs to the throne, and He loves us unconditionally. I love my kids unconditionally.”

“Just having kids has ignited that part of my relationship with the Lord that I didn’t have before. And it’s just been so cool to even view myself in that way, and even cut myself some slack. As I view my kids — God views me that way,” he continued. “There’s no shame, there’s no condemnation. We still need to run to Him. And it’s not a free pass. But there’s so much freedom in that.”

Dixon’s new projects are wonderful reminders of the power of God’s love and how it can work in our lives.
