Colton Dixon shared why he was open about his Christian faith even after being warned against doing so when competing on AMERICAN IDOL.
“They gave a blanket, ‘Don’t get political, don’t get religious’ to all the contestants. They were like, ‘You’re going to pigeon hole some of your audience,’” Dixon told Matthew West. “But they also said, ‘Be true to who you are,’ and I couldn’t imagine not telling people, you know, about how amazing God has been to me and my family. So, it’s just always been a part.”
His commitment to his faith has shined through his entire career, from the music he has produced to how he has persevered through tough times. In 2017, he was dropped by his music label, but his foundation in the Lord allowed him to fight on and continue his music career.
“That came as quite a shock. I thought we were meeting for lunch to discuss songs. Turns out, it was ‘we are going to drop you,” Dixon said.
“We have to choose to have faith over fear,” he added, explaining why he persevered through that time. “We felt like there was more story to tell on the music side.”
Since then, he has worked on so many more projects and shares the word of God through tours. Dixon believes that his continued success after that setback is further evidence that the Lord is on his side as He has opened doors for him that seemed impossible.

“That may be something hard to hear if you’re in the middle of it right now. But just let me tell you, stick with it. Just don’t give up,” Dixon told the Charisma podcast network. “Don’t give up. God opens doors that no man can shut. Sometimes. Maybe you’re just not looking at the right door. Or maybe you’re on the wrong doorstep. That doesn’t mean give up. It’s like, ‘Hey, just keep searching, keep diving into the word, keep praying, and I promise it will come to fruition, it always does.”
“God isn’t going to ask you to do something just because he feels like it. I think he’s trying to get something to you,” Dixon later explained. “His plans for us are to prosper us — not to harm us — to give us hope and a future. He knows the best-case scenario for us. So, when he asks you to do something that doesn’t make sense, we would be a fool not to trust and to go along with it.”
Praise the Lord that Dixon has such a strong faith and continues to trust in God, even when times get hard. This mindset has allowed him to impact millions of lives as he brings his listeners closer to the Lord.
