Christian Artist Describes God’s Plan for Us, and It’s So Good

Christian artist Colton Dixon is reminding us of the importance of God’s plan for our lives.

“This song is centered in Jeremiah 29:11 — ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,’” Dixon said of his track “UP+UP” during an episode of THE WALK.

In a statement given to The Christian Beat, Dixon said of the song, “Life is tough, but I believe God wants the best for us. Though life doesn’t come without trials, I believe that God’s plan is to give us hope and a future — a plan that always says ‘up and up’ again.”

Movieguide® previously reported on “UP+UP”:

Christian artist Colton Dixon is opening up about a Bible verse that shaped his life and inspires his music.

“Jeremiah 29:11 has been a favorite of mine for a long time,” the AMERICAN IDOL alum said. “And I feel like that is the same with a lot of other people as well. It’s their life verse. And I’m like, ‘Okay, like, man, this really talks about God’s plan for us and what that means.’ And growing up, I don’t know, I feel like I didn’t always have the mindset that I do now, which is, you know, sometimes God is the cause behind bad things to teach us a lesson or two.”

The verse reads, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

“But now, looking back, I’m like, ‘You know what? I don’t think God is actually the cause of that because it says in His Word time and time again that His plans are to prosper us, not to harm us, to give us hope and a future,’” Dixon continued. “So, that means that the enemy is actually behind that. Right? The Bible also says the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, but God comes to give us life and life more abundant. So I really wanted to dive into what God’s plan was for all of us. I think it’s for everyone.”

Dixon told THE WALK that, while writing the song, he was “challenged…to look at what God’s plan was for our lives.”

“You’re not going to figure out what God’s plan is for your life or hear God’s voice if you’re tuned into the wrong radio station,” he explained. “Being in God’s word is essential to knowing God’s plan for our life…there’s going to be a lot of other stations that we need to block out. The world’s got a lot to say right now, and it’s loud sometimes, but it’s essential to seek God.”

Dixon shared that he grew up thinking that “sometimes God not only allowed things to happen but was the cause of something to happen, to teach me a lesson or get me where I needed to be, but God’s word actually says something different…His plans are to prosper us, not harm us.”

“God wants the very best for you,” he continued. “Don’t settle for ‘good’ or for ‘better’ when you can have God’s best.”

Dixon concluded, “He wants us to have the best. He wants us to be the best. He has a plan for us that exceeds our craziest imagination. It’s our job to press in and rely on the Holy Spirit to show us what that is.”

Dixon is currently preparing for his upcoming “UP+UP Tour,” which kicks off this fall. As his musical career takes off, he has been “intentional” about continuing to center God in his life.

“I think it’s something that you have to constantly check in to make sure that you’re doing what God has asked you to do,” the singer told the Christian Post. “Because I think so quickly, you can turn from God’s calling into just what you love. And then, like the love of telling people about Jesus becomes more important than actually doing the deed.’

He continued, “It’s God first, family second, ministry third for me, and I don’t always get those priorities right. I’m still learning how to manage. But I know at the end of the day, that’s what it needs to be.”
