SPY KIDS Star Shares Why You Need to Nourish Your Body

Alexa PenaVega, star of SPY KIDS and MR. MANHATTAN, is sharing why it’s important to nourish your body and mind.
“So God gave us these incredible bodies, our temple, our mind, that we’re supposed to be nourishing it like crazy, and I just want to ask you, are you nourishing what God gave you?” she asked on her Instagram story this week. “Are you pouring into your spiritual life? Are you pouring into your physical body in the way that you’re supposed to?”
“I want you guys to care about your bodies. Like we get one body, that’s it. And we drink soda…What does that do for your body? Nothing.”
PenaVega doesn’t judge those who drink soda but makes the point that there are a lot of things we put in our bodies that have no nutritional value, and that goes for the content we watch, too.
“I’m just saying we should really be asking ourselves before we consume anything, whether it is physical or even the stuff we’re watching on social media or entertainment. We gotta ask ourselves, is this nourishing me? Is this doing me any good?”
PenaVega previously struggled with bulimia for six years, and it caused pain and damage to her body. She had to be hospitalized for bloating, ulcers and other issues in her body that restricted her ability to digest food.
She worked hard to restore her health and eventually felt healed and healthy.
“I finally have the nutrients I had deprived my ‘temple’ of (Our bodies are incredible gifts from God that we have to take care of!),” she triumphantly wrote in 2016.
Movieguide® previously reported how faith helped her through her disorder:
PenaVega credited her faith for helping fight through the battles.
“The Word of God is power. … It is so powerful,” the actress explained. “I mean, it’s so powerful in the way that people look at superheroes or magic or whatever they want to look at. It is literally that. I feel like a superhero because I know I have God behind me in everything that I do.
“I kind of feel untouchable. I know it’s not by my own doing,” she continued. “But He’s in control. So I literally have nothing to fear because He’s in control. It’s like a wild hallucination when you discover that. It’s freedom.”
