Apple plans to open its large language models that power Apple Intelligence AI up to third-party developers, according to The Verge.
Apple rolled out its AI model, Apple Intelligence, last year. This model can rewrite emails, summarize notifications and edit photos.
Per Bloomberg, opening up its AI models to third-party apps means the developers can integrate specific features of Apple Intelligence within their apps.
According to Gadget 360, Apple hopes that opening its AI model will put more AI-powered apps “on its marketplace.”
“With more apps that use AI capabilities, the company is said to believe that it could invigorate consumer interest in devices that offer Apple Intelligence,” Akash Dutta wrote.
The tech giant plans on releasing this plan at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9-13.
According to a press release from Apple, “the free online conference will bring the global Apple developer community together to provide insights into the latest Apple tools, technologies, and features. Throughout the week, developers around the world can connect with Apple engineers, designers, and evangelists, and watch more than 100 sessions that will help them discover the newest enhancements to build platform-differentiating apps and games across Apple products.”
In addition to AI advancements, Apple will also roll out a new accessibility feature later this year, which includes Accessibility Nutrition Labels.

“Users who are blind or have low vision can explore, learn, and interact using the new Magnifier app for Mac; take notes and perform calculations with the new Braille Access feature; and leverage the powerful camera system of Apple Vision Pro with new updates to visionOS,” a press release from Apple said.
“At Apple, accessibility is part of our DNA,” Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said. “Making technology for everyone is a priority for all of us, and we’re proud of the innovations we’re sharing this year. That includes tools to help people access crucial information, explore the world around them, and do what they love.”
More updates and advancements include “Accessibility Reader, a new systemwide reading mode designed with accessibility in mind, along with updates to Live Listen, Background Sounds, Personal Voice, Vehicle Motion Cues, and more.”
Sarah Herrlinger, Apple’s senior director of Global Accessibility Policy and Initiatives, added: “Building on 40 years of accessibility innovation at Apple, we are dedicated to pushing forward with new accessibility features for all of our products. Powered by the Apple ecosystem, these features work seamlessly together to bring users new ways to engage with the things they care about most.”
By opening up its AI model to third-party developers and releasing new accessibility features, Apple hopes to stay an integral part of users’ day-to-day lives.
