DUNE: PART THREE is already a massive success eight months before its release date on Dec. 18.
Warner Bros says that its 70MM Imax tickets for the movie are already sold out at 19 locations in North America and London for its opening weekend, Deadline reported. Tickets at the select theaters just went on sale on April 6, The Hollywood Reporter said. Some locations sold out within hours.
CinemaBlend reported that scalpers are reselling the tickets for exorbitant prices. eBay listings range from $100 for a single seat to $1,000 for pairs. A preview night pair reached $4,500.
This is the first movie in the DUNE trilogy that was shot with Imax film cameras.

“This incredible result is proof that the fans’ anticipation to experience DUNE: PART THREE as it was meant to be — on the biggest, boldest screens possible — is at a fever pitch,” said Warner Bros President of Global Distribution Jeff Goldstein. “Once again, Denis Villeneuve has crafted an unmissable cinematic experience for audiences, whether they are fans of the first two films, or will be discovering this world for the first time. We congratulate Denis and our partners at Legendary and Imax on this exciting outcome and look forward to sharing DUNE: PART THREE with moviegoers everywhere.”
It’s unknown when standard tickets will go on sale.
Villeneuve co-wrote the movie with Brian K. Vaughan. The story is based on the novel Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert. It stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Isaach De Bankolé, Charlotte Rampling, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert Pattinson and Javier Bardem.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “Emperor Paul Atreides faces the fallout from his ascent to power as political plots and a galaxy-wide holy war endanger the future only he can see.”
The official run time for the movie was just confirmed this week, too. It’s the shortest movie in the trilogy at two hours and 20 minutes long.
The original movie, DUNE, won a Movieguide® award for the Best Movie for Mature Audiences in 2022.
Part of Movieguide®’s review of DUNE reads, “DUNE is a powerful, exciting, satisfying epic. It’s worth seeing on a big screen. Even better, the movie has strong Christological themes, excellent dialogue and conservative statements about freedom and individualism.”
“It affirms a father’s love and the importance of motherhood. DUNE has very little foul language, and no explicit crude content. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children and young teenagers because of intense action violence and references to the hallucinogenic properties of the natural resource called spice.”
AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY also releases on Dec. 18, which might give PART THREE some tough box office competition.
