THE BAD GUYS 2 just released Aug. 1, but the cast and director already hope they can return for a third installment.

“There’s definitely conversation,” director Pierre Perifel said. “We’ve been chatting among ourselves out of sheer passion about potentially making a third one…Now, is it going to happen? That’s a different question, because it’s all tied up to much more than just us.”

The cast truly enjoyed working on the movie, which follows the Bad Guys as they struggle “to find trust and acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys.”

“I loved it because you have the confidence with it being the second one,” actor Craig Robinson, who plays Shark, shared at the movie’s LA premiere. “They gave me some more crazy stuff to do. It was so much fun and passionate. It’s contagious. They’re amazing to work with alongside producer Damon [Ross] and directors JP [Sans] and Pierre [Perifel]. I had a ball.”

The first film, simply titled THE BAD GUYS, released in 2022. Movieguide® rated the film positively. A synopsis reads:

Wolf, Snake, Shark, Tarantula, and Piranha have teamed together to pursue a life of crime until they are given an opportunity to go straight. Now, they must unlearn their devious nature and choose the path that stresses self-sacrifice and serving others. Eventually, just when their good behavior is about to be rewarded, they discover that someone is setting them up to be framed.

Actress Awkwafina also shared her excitement to return as the character Ms. Tarantula. “It’s cool being back in a situation where you never thought you would be back again with the same people, and everyone gets along,” she said.

Danielle Brooks, who plays Kitty Kat, a new character in the second film, said, “I got to be in the booth with Sam [Rockwell], which never really happens. That was a lot of fun. He reminded me to loosen up with the script. We did a lot of improv together.”

Perifel explained the difficulties that come with creating a sequel.

“When you have the opportunity to make a sequel from a movie that people reacted well to, the challenge was, ‘Is there a way I can do it again? Am I going to be successful at doing at least a good job with the same quality or better?’” he explained. “Sequels are notoriously complicated to make. That’s the pressure that we’re facing. We had to get out of our way and embrace what was there for us so that the movie and story would develop itself.”

So far, it’s been a hit with viewers, and that’s good news for the franchise’s future. THE BAD GUYS 2 rated 86% with Rotten Tomatoes, which they announced on Instagram.

Stay tuned to see if a third installment happens!
