Baylor University quarterback Sawyer Robertson shared about his faith and its impact on him when it comes to football.
“I mean, my faith is the foundation of my life, and so without Jesus doing what He did on the cross, I’d be nothing. And so that’s definitely my why I use the abilities and the opportunities God’s given me to kind of try to glorify Him and have an impact on people,” Robertson told media team member, Jacob Lintner, before the Senior Bowl.
Robertson then shared several Bible verses that he goes to when things begin to get tough or when he notices he has started to prioritize football over his relationship with God.
The first verse Robertson mentioned was 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

“That one kind of reminds me, no matter how bad it might get, there’s no reason to be afraid or timid. Because you know Jesus. Jesus took care of us on the cross 2000 years ago,” the quarterback said.
The second verse he talked about was Mark 8:36, which reads, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?”
“That just, that’s just for like, if you know, football becomes an idol for me, or anything like that. At the end of the day, it’s not worth it,” he explained.
Lastly, Robertson shared some advice for the next generation of Christian athletes.
“You always have eyes on you, and so use the platform that you’ve been given to have an impact on the kingdom,” he emphasized.
Knowing that Jesus is the source of his identity and not his performance on the field impacts how Robertson plays.
“My identity comes through who Jesus Christ says I am and what He did on the cross,” he said previously, per Baylor Football on Instagram. “I know because of that I’m taken care of, and because of that, I can play free.”
No matter what comes his way, Robertson rests in Christ’s security.
In another post, he shared Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Regardless of what Robertson may endure in his life, he knows that Jesus is his strength and refuge. Look for Robertson during the 2026 Senior Bowl tomorrow night, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
