In his rookie year in the NFL, the Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson has four game-winning field goals.

However, none were more important than his 52-yard boot as time expired, which lifted the Bengals past the top-seeded Titans in a 19-16 victory.

McPherson’s field goal earned the Bengals organization their first-ever road playoff win and first trip to the AFC championship since 1988.

Despite his late-game heroics, McPherson donned a “God is good” t-shirt after the win.

“This is my job,” McPherson said after the win. “This is what I do for a living, so it’s my job to stay cool, calm and collected in moments like those. I’m just so happy that my team put me in position to succeed and give me the opportunity to win the game.”

“Pretty much all that was going through my mind is that we get one more game,” McPherson added. “We’re guaranteed one more game. We get another chance to go out and win another game. We’re one step closer to our goal.”

While McPherson and the Bengal’s hope to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 30 for a chance at the Super Bowl, McPherson is outspoken about his faith and desire to glorify God on and off the field.

On Instagram, McPherson often posts scripture. After the Bengals’ win on Saturday, he posted Psalm 34:8, which reads, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

In December, McPherson won AFC Special Teams Player of the Month and wrote, “Glory to God. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18,” which reads: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

McPherson grew up in a Christian home in Fort Payne, Alabama, where we was a soccer and football star. He committed to play college football at the University of Florida, where he went 51-for-60 on field goal attempts and set a Southeastern Conference record for field goal percentage.

Before his senior year, McPherson entered the 2021 NFL draft.

“For Him, Through Him, Because of Him!” McPherson tweeted. “‘Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.’ Proverbs 16:3 || I’m excited for the next chapter of my life! Go Gators!!”
