Bethany Hamilton shared the Bible verse she comes back to when anxiety starts to take hold.

“These verses are more than a feel-good phrase, it’s hope and a lifeline,” she shared in an Instagram post, pointing followers to Isaiah 26:3-4.

The verses read, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

“Anxiety is real. Even as believers, we’re not immune to the struggles of this life! But God never tells us to ‘just stop worrying.’ He invites us into His everlasting peace and He is our rock,” Hamilton wrote. “If God holds the whole world in His hands…He can hold you too! He guards your mind. He gives you peace and hope in every storm.”

She concluded, “So anytime anxiety knocks, remember: peace is not the absence of worry, but it’s a deeper knowing and faith that God will hold you steady and He is your everlasting rock!”

The former pro surfer has previously spoken about her struggle to overcome anxiety, especially after losing her arm in a shark attack at age 13.

“I began to worry about the future: Will I have to forget about surfing forever? What am I going to do?” she told Experience Life about the aftermath of the attack. “When I first returned to surfing, I was very afraid of sharks. The attack that happened to me was such a rare occurrence, but I still thought about it. So to fight that fear I would just get in the water and focus on catching the waves. I refused to dwell on ‘what-ifs.’”

Hamilton added, “One of the most beautiful things that came from the accident is how it has allowed me to see that I can overcome difficult things. It taught me that I have the ability to overcome my fear in scary situations.”

She also came to rely heavily on her faith during the recovery process. While speaking at Liberty University, Hamilton told the audience, “One thing that can bring peace amongst all the chaos is knowing God’s grace, His forgiveness, His peace, His love. That is what will change you to face the adversity with a whole new level of appreciation.”

“When I lost my arm, my life could have gone in so many different directions, but because I chose to adapt…and this changed the trajectory of my life,” she continued. “The ripple effect that my life had because I was willing to adapt turned into something so beautiful. While I believe the Lord orchestrated it, I still had to be willing to show up and do the hard work.”

Hamilton’s post is a wonderful reminder that, even when faced with the anxieties of everyday life, we can always rely on God to be our rock.
