Blake Shelton Leaves THE VOICE to ‘Invest’ In His Family
By Movieguide® Staff
This year, country music star Blake Shelton revealed that 2022 would be his final year as a judge on the singing competition show, THE VOICE.
Shelton, who recently married Gwen Stefani, said that he wants to give his full attention to his duty as a the stepfather to Stefani’s three sons, Kingston, 16, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 8.
“They’ve taught me something about myself that I never knew: I’m more than just a country singer or a goofy guy,” he told PEOPLE. “I’m someone they actually lean on, and that’s not a responsibility that I ever had and not something that I ever considered even being into.”
“It’s a different kind of self-worth. Maybe it’s the opposite of self-worth because you put yourself way down on the rung, and they move up ahead of you,” Shelton added. “You don’t know what your regrets are going to be until you look back one day. I feel like my regrets would be, if I stayed on this path, that I am missing out on some more important things in life — and for now, that’s our kids.”
The 46-year-old music country star said that being the father and husband taught him to become more selfless.
“Having kids, it truly does make you go, ‘Oh whoa. Wait a minute.’ This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again,'” he said. “If you don’t say that to yourself, I think you’re only hurting yourself because you’re going to miss out.”
“[Family] is what I want to invest in now,” he said.
Movieguide® previously reported on Shelton and Stefani’s marriage in 2021:
Musical artists Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani tied the knot on July 3, 2021, with their family-oriented wedding in the backyard of Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch house.
The couple wed at a chapel Shelton had built on the property, complete with a cross above the entryway.
“Their shared faith is very important,” a source told PEOPLE magazine. “Having the wedding at home was a way for their families — and Gwen — to be as comfortable as possible. Blake wanted the day to be perfect for Gwen. His love for her is so deep.”
The source added, “They’re a very family-oriented couple, and that’s exactly what the wedding was about. Family was at the center of everything.”
The couple chose THE VOICE host Carson Daly to officiate their wedding.
“Gwen and I both share a deep sense of faith. We talk a lot about faith, the two of us, and to work with them and their family to get to be a part of that day with my family was really an honor,” Daly said. “It was fun too. I don’t want people to think, ‘Oh, a big celebrity wedding.’ We had a blast all weekend long.”
