Country star Blake Shelton just launched his new singing competition show, THE ROAD, and he’s confident he won’t make the same mistake THE VOICE did.
THE ROAD follows “12 emerging musicians as they compete as opening acts for Grammy® Award winner Keith Urban at venues across America. Urban, along with executive producers Blake Shelton, Taylor Sheridan, ‘Tour Manager’ Gretchen Wilson, and guest country stars, decide, along with a live audience, who advances to the next city and wins the grand prize. The series captures their high-stakes, unfiltered journeys and offers a backstage pass into the gritty life of a touring musician,” the shows description reads.
While Shelton hosted Country Countdown USA, he spoke about the how he thinks THE ROAD will help young artists.
“I think we found stars,” he shared. “Because they will perform an original song. Some of those original songs will take off and go viral, whether they win or not. Their music will be available when the show airs, so they won’t have to wait for the end of the show to buy their music.”

This will differ from THE VOICE, which has trouble producing stars.
“By the time the artist wins the show, [the TV people] have already moved on to the next season,” Shelton explained. “But also, that show was more about the coaches, and that’s why it was so popular. [It’s] not as much [focused] on the artists.”
THE ROAD premiered on CBS on Oct. 19, with new episodes released weekly on Sunday nights.
The premiere was held at the Tannahill Tavern and Music Hall.
“Checking everything out before the PREMIERE of @theroadcbs!!!! It’s like Christmas morning!!! Kicking it off in Fort Worth, TX at Tannahill’s.. Tune-in TONIGHT on @cbstv! #TheRoad,” Shelton wrote in a post on social media.
Shelton’s stays busy with his own career too. His latest song, “Stay Country or Die Tryin’,” released in June and has been a hit since.
He loves the song because it is “filled with attitude. That’s what God’s Country had too. You’re so proud of who you are that you’re mad about it. It’s just the lifestyle I live when I can turn off the singer and become the fake rancher I am. I become that guy when I sing this song,” he told Country Countdown USA.
THE ROAD airs on CBS every Sunday evening at 9:00 p.m. ET. You won’t want to miss the up-and-coming singers who Shelton believes have what it takes to become real stars.
