Brandon Lake Reminds Couples ‘You’ve Got To Go To God First’

Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian sat down with Christian artist Brandon Lake and his wife Brittany to talk about the importance of putting God first.
“Make sure, in your relationship…it does not replace the fact that you’ve got to go to God first,” Lake shared.
The singer-songwriter recalled a moment in his marriage where he was struggling. After talking to a counselor, Lake realized he was not prioritizing God.
“I was trying to fill a void with Brittany that only God can fill. And she does complete me in so many ways, but if I’m only ever going to Brittany to fill some need, it’s always going to fall short,” he explained. “You have to learn how to go to God first.”
Brittany added one of her own revelations about marriage, sharing a story about attending a women’s group at her church during the first year of her marriage. During a meeting, they were asked, “Are you praying daily for your husband?”
That really resonated with Brittany, who added, “If you’re not praying daily for your husband, how is he ever going to reach his full potential? If you’re not the one on your knees, praying for him daily, he’ll never get where he needs to go.”
“It makes me think of in First John where it talks about, like, no one’s seeing God, but we see God through the way that we love one another,” Huff chimed in. “It’s so cool when you’re praying for your spouse, and then they come to you and say something that you’ve only said to God. It makes you feel so crazy loved in one moment because you feel loved by God that He would speak that over your spouse, and then feel it by your husband that they would say that to you.”
Lake and Brittany recently teamed up for new single “Nothing New (I Do) – Wedding Version,” which featured Brittany on background vocals and in the music video.
“When I decided to turn this song from my record into a love song, I made the bold move of asking Brittany to sing some bgvs on it with me,” Lake posted on Instagram. “Surprisingly, she said YES and braved the studio for the first time! Special song to me and even more special with Britt’s oohs and ahhhs.”
“Nothing New” featured on Lake’s 2022 COAT OF MANY COLORS album. Movieguide® previously reported:
Brandon Lake, Christian artist and five-time Grammy Award winner, has released his new 16-track album, “Coat of Many Colors.”
“Penned by Lake with Jonathan Smith, Steven Furtick, Jacob Boyles, Andrew Cherry and Leeland Mooring, the new song teases the many ‘colors’ of worship and styles showcased on the full record,” CCM Magazine wrote.
The album cover shows Lake wearing his own coat of colors, which was designed by Greg Lauren, the nephew of Ralph Lauren.
“In many ways, we are all wrapped in a coat of many colors – we are clothed in the Father’s love and in his pride for us, and everyone one of us are his favorite,” Lake explained. “We see in the story of Joseph’s life that he was misunderstood, he had dreams that got him in trouble, and he had to go through the process of trusting his dreams and being faithful to God. Joseph went from a pit to a palace, and this album explores that theme heavily.”
Lake and Huff will be joining each other again for this year’s K-LOVE Awards.
“The K-LOVE Fan Awards announced live on the nationwide K-LOVE radio network that Brandon Lake and Sadie Robertson Huff will host the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards,” CCM Magazine reported. “Taking place on May 26, 2024 at Nashville’s iconic OPRY House, Coca-Cola Consolidated will once again serve as sponsor for the fan-voted awards show that concludes the biggest weekend in Christian music.”
