British Diver Declares ‘God was With Us’ After Historic Olympic Win
By Movieguide® Contributor
British diver Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix just took home her first-ever Olympic medal and gave God the glory.
Spendolini-Sirieix and her partner Lois Toulson “won Great Britain’s third diving medal at the Paris Games. The swim duo also secured third place in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform,” The Christian Post reported.
“I’m so happy. I usually have so much to say; I don’t have anything to say today,” Spendolini-Sirieix told the BBC after the race.
“Having my family here, doing it alongside Lois, it’s been a crazy two years. I give glory to God,” she added.
This medal meant so much to Spendolini-Sirieix because, after the Tokyo Games, she struggled mentally and almost quit the sport altogether.
“I have struggled a lot with diving,” she explained. “It has been a love-hate relationship but right now I have nothing but love for it.”
However, with her relationship steadfast in the Lord, Spendolini-Sirieix overcame those struggles and is now an Olympic medal winner.
She shared her emotions on Instagram and included Joshua 1:9, which says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
“God was with us from round 1 to round 5. He is with us wherever we go. He never lets us down,” Spendolini-Sirieix continued to write. “Today we made history. First women’s 10m platform medal in over 100 years. First women’s 10m platform synchro medal for Team GB. And I got to do it beside @lois_toulson – what a moment it was for us. We were strong and courageous, and we did not back down. NEVER BACK DOWN NEVER WHAT!”
“It’s not over yet… we have the individual to go through,” she concluded. “I will take a few days to decompress and start training again for what will be an exciting few more days of competing. Again, thank you for all your messages and support. I truly don’t believe a thank you is enough – my heart is truly overflowing with love. To God be the glory forever and ever, amen.”
Movieguide® previously reported on another young Olympian who looked to God after taking home gold:
Hezly Rivera, the youngest member of Team USA, looked to God after the USA Women’s Gymnastics team’s Olympic gold win last week.
“OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST 🥹🥹🥇🥇💗couldn’t be more thankful and super proud of this team!! Isaiah 40:31 <3,” Rivera wrote on her Instagram…
Many of Rivera’s followers offered their congratulations on her post.
“Well if this isn’t one of the coolest posts surrounding these olympic games,” one follower wrote. “You dreamed big and your dream came true (with a tremendous amount of your hard work and support from your coaches and family in between the dream and the realized dream)! Congratulations to you and the rest of the GOLD MEDAL TEAM!”
