CBS to Cancel THE TALK After 15 Seasons

CBS to Cancel THE TALK After 15 Seasons

By Movieguide® Contributor

CBS has decided to cancel the popular daytime show THE TALK, killing it at the end of this year after a short Season 15 that will end in December.

“THE TALK broke new ground when it launched 14 years ago by returning daytime talk to CBS with a refreshing and award-winning format,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios President David Stapf said in a joint statement. “Throughout the years, it has been a key program on CBS’ top-rated daytime lineup as it brought timely, important and entertaining topics and discussions into living rooms around the globe.”

“It goes without saying that hosting and producing a year-round talk show is no easy task, and we express our sincere gratitude to our amazing hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood, our Executive Producer/Showrunner Rob Crabbe and the hardworking producing team and crew,” the statement continued.

“We also want to acknowledge our former show hosts and colleagues who contributed throughout the seasons. We truly appreciate the skill, creativity and dedication everyone involved brought to the show every day. And of course, we thank the numerous guests who appeared, and the millions of viewers who tuned in daily. For the final season, we plan to celebrate the show and give it the proper sendoff it deserves when it concludes in December 2024,” the statement added.

THE TALK was developed in 2010 by actress and host Sara Gilbert. She was joined by Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini, Julie Chen Moonves and Sharon Osborne. Over the years, all original hosts have left or been asked to leave, though the show has remained popular. It has earned 14 Daytime Emmy Awards with 56 nominations.

Though the show is currently the third most popular talk show on air, it sits as CBS’ lowest-rated daytime show, which left it on the chopping block. While nothing has been officially announced to replace THE TALK’s airtime, CBS previously revealed it is creating a new daytime soap opera, THE GATES, which is now speculated to replace THE TALK.

Movieguide® previously reported on former THE TALK host Julie Chen Moonves:

Faith-filled TV host Julie Chen Moonves shared how being let go from THE TALK helped her discover what a relationship with God truly means.

Per The Christian Post, “In 2018, Chen Moonves went through personal turmoil after her husband, Leslie Moonves, whom she wed in 2004, resigned from CBS amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Moonves, 73, has denied the allegations from multiple women. Just over a week later, Chen Moonves, who shares a son with her husband, announced her exit as moderator of THE TALK, the network’s daytime program she’d hosted since 2009.”

“I was forced out from my job THE TALK, where I was co-host and the moderator for the last eight years of my life,” she told Relevant Magazine. “When I lost that job and was forced to step down, life as I knew it was like a snow globe turned upside down. And that made me go through a ball of emotions.”

“There was a lot of anger,” she added. “There was fear of what was going to become of me, my future, who I am. I was having this identity crisis because I was so wrapped in my identity as a broadcaster. I felt lost.”
