WHEN CALLS THE HEART star Chris McNally just revealed what’s ahead for his character, Governor Lucas Bouchard, in Season 13.
“You’ve got two towns that are coming together to try to become a community, even though their needs are very different,” McNally told Parade of what fans can expect from his character this season.
“We get to explore what sets the stage for a really great journey when there’s a tragic set of circumstances, and you are somewhere you don’t want to be,” the actor explained. “How do you proceed from there? Where does that road go? That’s what we get to explore. I think some really beautiful arcs come out of that.”
McNally also hinted at the romantic future between Lucas and Miranda MacDougall’s Edie.

“I think both Edie and Lucas are interested in that concept, but they are struggling to get through some barriers that are set in place,” he said. “Some of it is miscommunication. Some of it is maybe them being afraid of getting hurt. We get to watch them navigate that route. It’s not a straight line, but I think that they are both motivated to head in that direction. There are definitely surprises on the relationship front.”
In a separate interview with Entertainment Now, he said, “We do turn the heat up between them, and we get to push farther and see what happens.”
WHEN CALLS THE HEART Season 13 premiered Jan. 4 on the Hallmark Channel and airs Sundays at 8/7c.
Movieguide® reviewed several episodes from Season 12. One review reads, “Season 12, is a fun, fascinating look at how the residents of Hope Valley deal with rapidly changing times. It contains a moral worldview, with Christian elements, such as one character referencing Deuteronomy 24:19 and another singing the hymn ‘It Is Well with My Soul.’”
Movieguide® notes, “As is typical in Hope Valley, characters try their best to help each other, encourage one another, and focus on the important things in life, like friends and family. There is no objectionable content in Episode 2.”
Fans of the show seems just as excited about Lucas’ future. In the comment section of a recent Instagram post about the character, one person said, “What a guy. We need more Lucas Bouchard Hallmark… Chris is a great actor and we have missed him so much.”
Another person added, “Love where season 13 is taking Lucas!”
