Chris Pratt commemorated 9/11 with an appearance at Pepperdine University’s Waves of Flag Ceremony.
“Today, let’s take a moment to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. 🇺🇸 It’s a day that changed our world forever, but it also showed us the strength and resilience that define the American spirit,” Pratt said on Instagram.
“I had the honor of planting the last flag at the Waves of Flag Ceremony today at @Pepperdine. Each flag represents an innocent life lost on that day, including a national flag for each foreign country that lost a citizen in the attack,” he explained.
“As we look back on the events of that fateful day, let’s remember the heroes – the firefighters, police officers, first responders, and ordinary people who risked everything to help their fellow citizens. 🙏🏼 Their courage and selflessness continue to inspire us all,” he continued.
“Let’s also pay tribute to the families who were forever changed by this tragedy. Your strength and the way you’ve come together as a community is a testament of the unbreakable bonds of love,” Pratt added.
The actor placed the final flag with student Colton Cherry, whose father lost his life during the attack on the World Trade Center.
Pepperdine’s Waves of Flag Ceremony is an annual ceremony to honor those who died during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The ceremony has been held every year since 2008 and continues to educate on the sacrifices that are made every day to keep America free.
“We reflected on the 2,977 taken too soon—from fathers to daughters, sons to mothers, friends to coworkers; each person had a story and a life full of dreams cut short,” Pepperdine said on Instagram.
“We also recognized the fearless efforts of the first responders who went beyond the call of duty, displaying extraordinary bravery and sacrifice. Their selfless acts remind us that heroes often arise in the face of adversity, showing us the best of what humanity can be,” the university added.
Movieguide® previously reported on Pratt honoring those who keep our country free:
Actor Chris Pratt recently honored World War II veterans at a Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming movie, THE TERMINAL LIST, where he stars as a U.S. Navy Seal.
“Well, this is a wonderful group of extraordinary men of the greatest generation,” Pratt told the Associated Press. “These are World War II veterans, and every year they take a pilgrimage back to Normandy.”
Pratt is candid about his connection to the U.S. military through the service of family members, like his brother Cully Pratt.
“It was an opportunity to just … catch up with them. I’ve been following their story,” Pratt said. “And when I saw them, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. We’ve got to spend time together’… I’d like to sit down and really talk to them and honor them for their great sacrifice.”
