After facing an identity crisis after her year as Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Tebow eventually found her worth in Christ instead of the title she had worked for her whole life.
“You work your whole life for something, and then you give it away. It felt like I was giving away the thing that made me worthy of being in the room,” Tebow said. “I didn’t even know how to get back to my dressing room. Everything had been done for me. And then suddenly, everyone moved on to the next girl, the next crown.”
What followed was a major identity crisis, and Tebow had little idea where her life was headed next. This aimlessness did more than shake her confidence; it crushed it, as the assurance she had in her self-worth went down to zero. However, in that despair, she realized that there was one person who could build her back up with an unshakable foundation.
“As a believer of Jesus Christ, as a Christian, I get to have something so much more powerful. I get to have, not self-confidence, I get to have God-confidence,” she said. “You see, what that means is that I get to have full trust in who God is and who He says I am.”
“And you know who He is? He is someone who is so, so much bigger than my life’s circumstances,” Tebow continued. “He is someone that is always, always trustworthy, that is always fixed and that is never, ever changing.”
The foundation Tebow found in God has enabled her to do some truly amazing and world-changing things. She and her former NFL star husband Tim Tebow work tirelessly to combat the sex and human trafficking industry both worldwide and in the U.S. At the same time, they also serve those with special needs and provide them with the dignity and respect they deserve.
“The Tim Tebow Foundation exists to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need,” the Tim Tebow Foundation’s website says of its mission. “We strive to fight for the Most Vulnerable People in the world—the MVP—through our work in our four main focuses in Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation, Orphan Care + Prevention, Profound Medical Needs, and Special Needs Ministry.”
In a world where so many people place their identity in their successes and awards, it is amazing to see how Tebow has overcome that empty life and instead focuses on living for the Lord.
