Comparison Steals. Tim Tebow Says God Wants This for You Instead

Comparison is the thief of joy, and NFL star-turned-evangelist Tim Tebow explains why.

“I feel like one of the things that we’re fighting right now is comparison,” he said in a video posted to Instagram. “Literally, another study came out that said 12% of our daily thoughts are spent on some form of comparison. When you are spending your life comparing yourself against other people, what you’re really saying is, ‘God, I’m not happy, I’m not grateful, I’m not content with where you put me and I need to be like somebody else.'”

The Bible often speaks about why we shouldn’t compare ourselves to others. 2 Corinthians 10:12 reminds us, “We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.”

“Listen, if God wanted you to be like someone else, He would have made you like somebody else, but He didn’t,” Tebow continued. “He created you with a design and with a plan for it to be exactly who you are and to make the most out of what He has given you. You were created in love, by love and for love. And He has a great plan and purpose for your life.”

The former football star reminded his followers that they “have a mission, and the mission is possible.”

“You have to know that, ‘I’m here on purpose.’ And when you know that you’re here on purpose, I don’t have to send my whole life wishing I was somebody else because the God of this universe who is sovereign and in control of all of it, in His design and in His wisdom and in His love for us, He made me who I am for a reason, and He didn’t make a mistake, and He didn’t make a mistake on you,” Tebow concluded.

Tebow is passionate about people understanding that God has a mission for them. He even wrote a book called Mission Possible: Go Create A Life That Counts, which released in 2022.

His goal for the book? “To encourage people of all ages that it is possible to create a life that counts. Every single one of us truly has the chance to make the world a better place. And I’m not talking about clishe slogans or hashtags. I truly believe every person can have a life of meaning, significance, and purpose.”

Tebow emphasizes that our “mission” could be anywhere.

“The mission isn’t just about one day on a mission trip,” he said on Instagram in 2022 following the book’s release. “It could be at the corner of the world or corner of your street or corner of your job or the person no one’s talking to in the corner of your lunchroom. But every single one of those people needs you to be on mission for them in that moment.”

Tebow is living out his mission by fighting child exploitation. Movieguide® previously reported:

Tim and Demi Tebow are fighting child exploitation abroad.

Last week, the couple met in the Netherlands at Europol to collaborate with the organization to protect children.

“@demitebow and I were so grateful for the opportunity to visit Eurpol’s Headquarters in The Hague, where we got to meet with Danny van Althuis and the team at Europol’s prestigious AP Twins, and support their efforts alongside HSI and ICMEC,” Tim posted on Instagram.

“32 investigators from around the world gathered at Europol for a weeklong sprint operation to investigate producers and distributors of child sexual exploitation material through live-streaming platforms,” he explained. “Some of the abused children are believed to be as young as three to four years of age.”
