Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud starts each game with prayer.

“Just a lot of prayer, a lot of worship, or listen to a lot of gospel [music] and just talk to my teammates, make sure we’re on the same page,” he told JJ Watt of how he prepares for a big game.

He continued, “And really just, you know, stay confident and just relax and understand that, you know, I prepared the right way, and now it’s time to play ball.”

Followers on Instagram were impressed and encouraged by Stroud’s response.

“Love this man of God!!! A great example for others & the next generation ❤️??,” one user said.

Another user added, “CJ is so well grounded, keep up the great leadership and stay in prayer. Best of luck this season!!!”

Stroud is open about his faith with his fans and gave God the glory after the Texans’ first win of the season last week, as Movieguide® reported:

CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans took the win on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

After the win, the leading quarterback made sure to praise Jesus Christ first.

“First and foremost, I want to give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Stroud said. “I’m just very grateful for another season, you know. Being in the NFL was a long dream of mine…”

“Stroud completed 24-of-32 passes for 234 yards with a pair of touchdown passes,” The Houston Texans reported. “Both those scoring strikes went to Stefon Diggs, and Stroud completed the day with a passer rating of 115.9. It was the second victory for Stroud at Lucas Oil Stadium in as many games. There was much to celebrate, but Stroud also had a critical eye on some areas for improvement.”

His Instagram page bio declares, “Follower of Christ,” an Instagram post from last season reads, “Thankful! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 107:1.”

This is Stroud’s second season in the NFL, and it seems his pre-game prayers have been working. CHRON reported, “Stroud acquitted himself historically well in his first season with the Houston Texans. He led Houston on a surprise run to the AFC South crown, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in the process. Stroud was the NFL’s lone quarterback to throw 20-plus touchdowns and five-or-fewer interceptions in 2023. Only Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa threw for more yards per attempt.”
