Dallas Jenkins Drops Sneak Peek of THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER Cast
By Movieguide® Contributor
Dallas Jenkins shared a snapshot of the cast of THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER as production on his latest project begins.
“The Herdmans are coming, holiday season 2024. I can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up,” Jenkins posted on Instagram alongside a photo of the cast.
THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER is a movie adaptation of the 1972 Barbara Robinson classic kids’ story by the same name. The movie follows the troublesome Herdman kids who get placed in the town’s Christmas pageant as a punishment. Though their crazy antics cause havoc throughout the play’s production, they ultimately lead the town to find the true meaning of Christmas.
Jenkins has been pursuing this project for over 15 years and had his dream fulfilled in December when production began in Winnipeg.
“I’ve been hoping to make this announcement for 15 years. There have been so many painful moments and near misses in that time. But now I finally get to make the movie Amanda and I have sought and envisioned and cried over,” Jenkins said last November when the movie was announced.
“This is the movie that I was born to make,” he added. “If I could only make one more movie for the rest of my life, this is it.”
The director is partnering with Lionsgate to finally bring his vision to life. Together, they hope they can create a holiday classic that families will revisit every year.
“The passion and vision Dallas has for this story is infectious – and to show him how we believe in the project as much as he does, we turned the Lionsgate restaurant into a holiday wonderland for him,” said Lionsgate president of production Erin Westerman. “We believe he will deliver a holiday perennial that will be fun for the whole family next holiday season.”
With production now well on its way, Jenkins plans to release the movie during the winter of 2024.
Movieguide® previously reported:
The movie follows the rowdy Herdman kids as they hijack the town Christmas pageant. However, as their crazy antics drive everyone up the wall – not the least the pageant’s director, Grace (Greer) – they help the town find the true meaning of Christmas.
“[I felt] right at home among the Herdmans,” Greer said. “Before she married my father, my mother was a nun who got kicked out of the covenant for her outrageous behavior – like owning a red bathing suit.”
“I love this story, and Dallas’ enthusiasm for it is infectious,” Holmes added. “It’s hugely gratifying to be a part of a movie that I hope will become part of holiday celebrations for years to come.”
The movie is based on the bestselling book by Barbara Robinson and was adapted by Jenkins, Darin McDaniel, Platte Clark and Ryan Swanson. It will be produced by Kingdom Story Company’s Kevin Downes, Daryl Lefever, Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin, alongside McDaniel and Chet Thomas.
