Actor Dennis Quaid is hosting a new nonfiction show that explores the marvels of the Christian faith and the Bible.

HOLY MARVELS WITH DENNIS QUAID will look at faith-based phenomena such as the Ark of the Covenant and the Philosopher’s Stone.

“I was drawn to this project not just because of its intriguing concept but also the way it deeply connects the universal human experience of faith and belief systems,” Quaid said in an interview. “This series is a unique opportunity for me to reinvest my religious interests and investigate the rich history of these holy marvels and the importance they hold for people around the globe.”

“These one-of-a-kind wonders are revered by cultures all around the world, and have been sought after by everyone from emperors, popes and tyrants, to generals, archaeologists, and treasure hunters,” History’s summary of the show reads. “HOLY MARVELS WITH DENNIS QUAID is an exciting new series that digs deep into the remarkable stories behind these awe-inspiring artifacts, their creation, the mysteries of their incredible powers, and the unforgettable adventures to find them.”

THE ROOKIE actor wants to explore the reality that comes with faith stories.

“It’s been said that seeing is believing,” the actor says in the series promo. “So it makes sense that when some of life’s biggest questions are believed to have left behind physical clues, we want to go see for ourselves. Noah’s Ark, the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, join me as we explore the facts behind some of history’s greatest leaps of faith.”

History Channel vice president Eli Lehrer expressed his enthusiasm for Quaid’s role in the series.

“His connection to the subject matter adds a layer of depth and intrigue to these thought-provoking narratives of diverse spiritual practices and captivating religious experiences that will resonate with viewers,” he said.

The series premieres on the History channel on Monday, June 3, at 10/9c and will be available to stream the next day.

Quaid has been open about how faith changed his life. Movieguide® previously reported:

Quaid realized that Jesus’ teachings were the only ones that led him to actual answers rather than left him with more questions.

“That’s when I started developing a personal relationship,” he told PEOPLE. “Before that, I didn’t have one, even though I grew up as a Christian.”

“[The holy texts] all point to the same thing, that which has no words, which is God. Jesus actually has the answers to all that. You know, I had heard about having a personal relationship with Jesus…I came to know what having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ was,” Quaid explained. “Like any relationship, it’s something that grows and grows and grows. It sometimes feels distant, but then it comes back. And at the same time, it’s who I am.”

In the decades since, Quaid has grown more bold in his faith, and it has shown through his career. He’s taken on more faith-based roles and even released a gospel album last year.
