Scott Adams, the man behind popular comic strip “Dilbert,” died after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 68 years old.

“I had an amazing life,” Adams wrote in a statement he posted to X on January 1. “I gave it everything I had.”

Adams’ “Dilbert” strip was first published in 1989, with its titular character tackling the absurdities of white-collar office life. He would go on to be honored by the National Cartoonists Society with the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonists of the Year in 1997.

The cartoonist shared with fans that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. In his recent social media statement, Adams shared that, while he had not been a believer in the Christian faith for much of his life, he recently accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior.

“Many of my Christian friends have asked me to find Jesus before I go. I’m not a believer, but I have to admit the risk-reward calculation for doing so looks so attractive to me. So, here I go,” Adams wrote.

He continued, “I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and look forward to spending an eternity with him. The part about me not being a believer should be quite quickly resolved if I wake up in heaven. I won’t need any more convincing than that. I hope I’m still qualified for entry.”

During an episode of his “Coffee With Scott Adams” podcast, Adams shared that he was planning to convert to Christianity. In a later episode, he told listeners, “On the religious stuff. I would like…to say that it’s now a private relationship between me and Jesus, and I’d like to keep it that way. But I totally appreciate the good intentions.”

President Donald Trump released a statement following Adams’ passing, saying, “He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease. My condolences go out to his family, and all of his many friends and listeners.”

Vice President JD Vance called the cartoonist “a true American original, and a great ally to the President of the United States and the entire administration.”

“My prayers go to Scott and all of you who loved him,” he continued. “We lost one of the good ones but we’ll never forget him.”

Adams’ fans are mourning the loss of this talented artist but are reassured by his acceptance of the Christian faith in the final days of his life.
