Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Blake Treinen secured the last seven outs in Game 5 against the New York Yankees to win his second World Series.
“Joy. I mean, overwhelming joy. God is absolutely good,” the relief pitcher expressed after the game.
“I gotta give a shout out to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for this moment, man,” he continued. “It’s a lot of hard work, what I’ve gone through…This moment is such a blessing.”
When asked who first came to mind when he secured the final out, Treinen’s answer was simple.
“God, honestly. Everything I’ve been through, it’s just so good to be here and have this platform,” he said.
According to Church Leaders, “Treinen, the Dodgers’ best closer, began struggling during the eighth inning Wednesday night. But instead of pulling Treinen to save his arm for a potential game six, manager Dave Roberts decided to keep him in. Afterward, Roberts described walking to the mound, looking in the pitcher’s eyes, and asking how much he had left. ‘He said, “I want it.” And I trusted him,’ Roberts said of Treinen.”
Eight players in the Dodgers dugout are free agents, and Treinen is one of them.
“After missing the majority of the 2022 season and all of 2023 as he recovered from right shoulder surgery, Blake Treinen had one of his best showings as a professional at the ripe old age of 36,” Dodger Blue reported. “He has been a mainstay in the Dodgers bullpen since the 2020 season. After pitching to the tune of a 1.93 in 46.2 innings, re-signing Treinen figures to be a high priority among Dodgers free agents.”
