GAF CEO Bill Abbott Looks Ahead to 2024: ‘Consistency Wins’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Great American Media CEO Bill Abbott is looking ahead to 2024 and sharing his thoughts on what’s made the network so successful.

“I think consistency wins, and we’re in a lane that is certainly underserved,” he said.

In the last year, the company has seen a 136% increase in viewers.

“When you’re able to be consistent in an area that has a need, you have the ability to be very successful,” Abbott explained. “I think so much of entertainment is filling voids in the market, and I think that’s been the biggest piece of our success.”

The CEO shared what he expects 2024 will hold for the entertainment industry as a whole.

“I think we’re going to see bundling become a big piece of how the streaming model becomes profitable, along with more consolidation. I think streaming is very challenged in terms of churn and other dynamics that exist that make it very hard to be profitable,” he shared.

CNBC reported that Disney and Charter’s historic deal earlier this year paved the way for bundling.

“Similar arrangements could well emerge in 2024, given the broad subscriber bases and positive revenue implications for pay TV and broadband companies,” CNBC wrote.

“What’s old is new, and the old model of the cable bundle with advertising is in all likelihood going to rule the day because that’s the most profitable model, and we have to pay for content to get produced,” Abbott continued. “Quality content will always have a home, and viewers will always pay for quality content, so it’s just figuring out how to best package and position things for success.”

Abbott and Great American Media have worked hard to produce quality content that draws viewership.

Movieguide® reported:

“The vast majority of content [that’s out there] is salacious and is not appropriate for any member of the family, really… We scrutinize every piece of content,” Abbott said of the network’s content. “We create every word, every sentence, every way in which a person either respects their family and their elders or interacts with them. Those are very important elements for us that are supportive of an overall culture structure and belief system.”

The CEO continued to put this mission into practice throughout Great American Family’s holiday programming.

“I think holiday programming really exemplifies what is so much a part of families — celebrations, special moments and the positivity and gathering together,” he said. “It’s kind of that ultimate viewing time of the year when people are celebrating together and very much thinking about family. Christmas programming is central to being the leading provider in faith-and-family content and a very important part of what we do.”

Great American Family star Candace Cameron Bure said that these faith-and-family values drew her to the network.

“I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment,” she said.
