Adam Lambert has been cast as Judas in an upcoming production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” which has already established itself as a blasphemous mockery by casting Cynthia Erivo as Jesus.
“Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl!” the show previously announced on Instagram. “Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner, and three-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo is cast as Jesus. The Hollywood Bowl tradition of the annual star-studded musical returns this summer with Jesus Christ Superstar, the global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for decades. Jesus Christ Superstar, originally released as a concept album and now returning to its rock roots, reaturing lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andew Lloyd Webber.”
While the musical has been criticized in the past for its glorification of Judas, questionable portrayal of Jesus’ divinity, writing of a lustful Mary Magdalene and omission of the resurrection, this upcoming production is taking the blasphemy to a new level. Cynthia Erivo has been cast to play Jesus, changing His gender while also introducing a queer storyline. The addition of Lambert adds to this blasphemy, as he will put a gay spin to Judas as well.
Erivo has previously engaged with a blasphemous production of the musical, joining a two-part all-female album where she served as the voice of Mary Magdalene. Her involvement in these productions is extremely disappointing as she previously explained that faith has played an important role in her life. In 2019, she portrayed Harriet Tubman in HARRIET, which placed an emphasis on the abolitionist’s often overlooked faith.

“The only thing I could do, really, to center myself was to pray,” Erivo said at the time. “I was listening to Gospel music just before I went in. As I walked to say that prayer, it didn’t feel like I was just saying it as Harriet. It felt like I was saying it as me…I think the thing that happened as that was happening and throughout, was my faith got stronger.”
Lambert, meanwhile, is extremely antagonistic against anyone who questions his way of life, even believing that he didn’t win his season of AMERICAN IDOL because he was openly gay.
While this production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” is disgusting for anyone with a real faith, given the current climate in the entertainment industry, it seems likely to draw a sizable audience who will cheer on this blasphemy. Nonetheless, make no mistake, this is a mockery of our Lord and in no way should be supported.
