God Brings Revival to Ohio State Football Team, Campus

Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has his eyes set on something greater than just football.

“Over the last couple years we’ve really seen the Lord start a revival on our team,” Egbuka said in a post shared by Christhlete.

Beyond just their team, though, the athletes are sharing their faith with fellow students. A recent event saw nearly 60 students baptized.

“The world didn’t give me this joy, the world can’t take it away. I had this new feeling in my heart that the Holy Spirit implanted into me,” Egbuka shared at the event. “And so since then, it was really a radical change for me. I started walking more obediently with God. I started seeking Him day after day. He’s worked on me, and I’ve had this grace of people in my life to get to this point.”

Movieguide® recently reported on the event:

Per Sports Spectrum, “On Sunday evening, a number of current Ohio State players held a faith event on campus, organized by former receiver Kamryn Babb and attended by both OSU students and others from around the United States. The Lantern, Ohio State’s independent student newspaper, reported that the event was made possible through a collaboration of a number of local Christian churches in the Columbus area.”

That event included baptisms, prayer, worship and several testimonies from players, and over 2,000 people attended.

At the start of the event, Babb told the crowd, “I just encourage you to step out in faith. Whatever you’re going through in life — whatever you’ve been through — I’m telling you there’s a God that desires you. So as we get into this worship, as we get into everything, we pray that you would see Him as He sees you. So as we get into this night, let’s give Him the glory.”

Egbuka is vocal about his faith on social media, too.

One post included the verse, Matthew 22:14, which says, “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

In a post from a few years ago, he shared Matthew 5:10-12: “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

This year was a pivotal year for Egbuka as he could have chosen to declare for the NFL draft. However, he knew his time at Ohio State wasn’t over yet.

“I probably knew I was coming back like a day before I posted that I was,” Egbuka explained. “I took all the time I needed with my decision to consult my family, to consult God about it. I feel like, ultimately, the Lord led me to return for another year to do something bigger than just for myself. So this season I’m gonna really use it all to dedicate to the Lord and just do that.”
