God Gives Us Family for This Reason, CeCe Winans Explains

By Movieguide® Contributor

CeCe Winans explained why, even though family can be hard sometimes, God gives them to us to teach us more about Him.

“I don’t think you can actually have family without drama,” Winans told TBN. “It’s really, really painful but I don’t think — you know, I always tell people, I think the Lord gives us children to deepen our prayer life. I think in marriage, you have to make up your mind about if you’re really going to be saved or not. Marriage will make you saved or backslide, you know what I’m saying; there’s nothing in between.”

Family, Winans explains, also helps us better understand our relationship with God and just what His sacrifice on the cross for our salvation means.

“I remember being betrayed by a family member, and it just broke my heart, and I remember, I was, you know — it was one of those times when you hear the Holy Spirit but you didn’t want to hear, you want to act like you didn’t know it was Him, you know,” Winans said. “And basically, He just said, ‘Now what’s more important? Your feelings or my perfect will?’”

“I was like, ‘Oh, I hate this.’ And I was like, ‘Lord, your will is your will. So if it’s my will, then I have to humble myself,’” Winans continued. “And I still have to walk in love to love that person just like I love you.”

“It’s funny because it’s easy to [forgive] people you don’t know, you know, because it’s not the same. But somebody who you know knows better, it’ll knock the wind out of you. And for me, when the wind is knocked out of me, I have to fall on my knees and I have to cry out, and the Bible says that He hears the cries of the righteous,” she added.

While family dynamics can be extremely hard at times Winans reminds us that the Lord uses all things for His good, and these situations can bring us closer to Him and teach us more about Holy forgiveness.

The gospel star is currently getting ready for her Christmas tour with AMERICAN IDOL contestant Roman Collins.

“Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and I’m looking forward to celebrating with everyone and sharing the stage with my special guest, Roman Collins. He is the real deal. He’s sincere about the Lord and singing gospel music,” she said of the tour.

Winans also frequently shares her faith across social media.

“My only prayer is that…God would be glorified, and that people would come to know who He is,” she proclaimed in a recent post.

Gospel icon CeCe Winans is sharing the real-life event that showed her “the power of praise.”

“My father has gone on to be with the Lord,” she said during an episode of TBN’s PRAISE. “My mom and dad were strong believers. My mom is still with me, and I am so grateful for them. I’m so grateful for the way they raised us in the church…but my father was one to praise God. He loved to worship Him in song. Wherever he is in heaven…let’s just say it like this: he’s making a lot of noise. He’s not quiet.”

Winans continued, “As a kid sometimes, I would wake up in the middle of the night and hear him just singing and anointing our heads with oil and praising God and worshiping God. And so, as a kid…I thought, ‘I don’t know. He’s kind of crazy.’ But as you read the scriptures about praise and worship and how God inhabits the praises of His people…I caught on to that. And I saw my dad do something that marked me for life, and that is when my second eldest brother passed.”
