Gordon Ramsey is thankful to be here after a nasty bike accident left him shaken up and receiving trauma care in the hospital.

“Hi guys, it’s Gordon. I’d like to share a very important message with you all,” Ramsey said in a video across social media. “You know how much I love cycling and triathlons and Iron Man, etc. This week, unfortunately, I had a really bad accident and it really shook me. Honestly, I’m lucky to be here.”

“Now, from those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses, and the hospital staff for me this week, they were amazing, but honestly, you’ve got to wear a helmet. I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care, you know, the fact that these helmets cost money; they are crucial,” he continued. “Even with the kids, a short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet.

“Now, I’m lucky to be standing here. I am in pain, it’s been a brutal week,” Ramsey added, showing a bruise that engulfed his entire side. “I’m sort of getting through it but I cannot tell you the importance of wearing a helmet.”

Despite his massive injury, Ramsey shared that he did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries and continued to advocate for biker safety through a before and after picture of his equipment. In his post-accident photo, Ramsey’s helmet is completely destroyed, further emphasizing that he owes his life to it.

While Ramsey is known internationally for his work in the culinary field and his numerous TV shows, he has also made a name for himself in the world of triathlons. He’s competed in them for over a decade. He even participated in the Iron Man World Championship in 2013 in a field that had been narrowed down to only 2,000 competitors.

Now that the chef is back on his feet, he returned to work as he continues production on his many shows. One of his most recent projects, FOOD STARS, sees him facing off against Lisa Vanderpump to create an all-star cooking team.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Lisa Vanderpump discussed joining Gordon Ramsey for season two of FOOD STARS and how the show brought out her most competitive side.

In season two of FOOD STARS, Vanderpump and Ramsey drafted a team of food and beverage entrepreneurs who they then mentored through a business boot camp as they competed for a final prize of $250,000 to put towards their businesses.

“We had to be strategic in choosing a team,” Vanderpump told Variety. “We had these challenges coming up where you had to have all your bases covered: we had to have somebody that understood how the kitchen worked, somebody who understood presenting. It wasn’t just their brand that they were pitching to us, it was also about their areas of expertise.”

“Sometimes it was frustrating as well when we both went after the same person. And then there were reasons personally, as well, why they chose either one of us,” she continued. “Gordon has got a huge presence in the UK where we filmed it, but the contestants were American, so they’ve known me for years. And then there were emotional reasons somebody would say, a mother who had passed loved you, different reasons.”
