Hallmark Star Jumps Ship for Great American Family: ‘All In’
By Movieguide® Contributor
While Cameron Mathison’s departure from Hallmark is bittersweet, he’s eager to be a member of the Great American Family.
“Hallmark is where I started, and everybody at Great American I knew from Hallmark…almost of them were over at Hallmark, and I love working there, and like leaving my MURDER, SHE BAKED series with Ali Sweeney and everybody else, like, that’s hard,” the ALL MY CHILDREN star said in a Us Weekly interview July 24. “Those are my friends, and I love doing those movies and they’re still going, everybody — they look amazing.”
Though he’s leaving Hallmark, Mathison is reuniting with many who’ve already left.
“So it’s like coming home, you know, with Great American family and so that, in a sense, it’s not hard at all because it’s very easy,” he said.
“But you know, I think a lot of the viewers are now watching both, you know, some of the viewers watch one or the other, and so for them, it’s hard, and…I get that, and I know it’s never easy for stuff like that, but you know, I still got a lot of stuff airing on Hallmark, and I’m shooting a lot of stuff on Great American Family and it’s, you know, that’s really good,” he said.
“We’re doing good stuff, and…it’s hard to leave in any show any channel you know, and I’ve done that through my career, but at the same time, I’m lucky that I stay in touch with people. I stay in touch with everybody at Hallmark. Like I say, they’re very near and dear to my heart.”
Mathison isn’t sure whether he’ll ever return to Hallmark or the MURDER, SHE BAKED series, but he “never says never.”
“I don’t really know where things will take me but at the same time, yeah of course there’s always a chance,” he said. “For sure I love her. We stay in touch, but right now you know, I’m definitely all in Great American, definitely.”
Next month, Mathison will film JINGLE BELLS, WEDDING BELLS with Candace Cameron Bure.
“We’re filming that last two weeks of August, first week of September. It’s a really fun script…but I’m really excited…I love the dynamic.”
“It’s going to be a fun character,” he said. “Candace and I have been talking about working together for a very long time, and so that’s finally happening…yeah, it’s going to be good.”
“The king and queen of Christmas comin’ together,” US Weekly correspondent Christina Garibaldi said.
The new Christmas movie is one of four GAF holiday productions this year: A VINTAGE CHRISTMAS with Merritt Patterson and Christopher Russell; LOVE AT THE KETTLE with Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega; and A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED with “Christmas Queen” Bure and Eric Johnson.
Movieguide® reported on JINGLE BELLS, WEDDING BELLS earlier this month:
Per TV Insider, JINGLE BELLS, WEDDING BELLS “will premiere in November as part of Great American Christmas 2024. The holiday event is in its fourth season.”
JINGLE BELLS, WEDDING BELLS is Bure’s second movie slated for the holiday season. [Bure]’s also starring in A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED where her character embarks on a journey to learn more about her past.
Aside from GAF and Hallmark, Mathison has also been hosting a show on Game Show Network called BEAT THE BRIDGE.
“If you love competition if you love trivia, you love excitement, you’re going to love this show!” he shared on Instagram in June.
