Her Father’s Faith Inspires This Grammy Winner Today
By Movieguide® Contributor
Grammy award winner CeCe Winans learned a very powerful lesson from her dad that she carries with her today.
“My second eldest brother Ronald passed, and we were all around the bed in the hospital room, and when Ronald took his last breath,” Winans explained on TBN, “My father’s hands went up, and he just began to worship God. And his first words were like ‘Lord, I thank you for the years you gave us Ronald. I thank you.'”
The singer was shocked by her father’s reaction, but it taught her a very important lesson about praise.
“Seeing how God carried my parents through that, losing a child, I saw the tears, but they never went into a deep depression,” she said. “He understood the power of praise. So, when I’m going through a rough time, a challenging time, I know even if I’m crying, I cry with my hands lifted up, and it gives me the strength, because worship always puts the focus on the greatness of God.”
Psalm 63:3-4 reminds us that, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name, I will lift up my hands.”
When life is incredibly difficult and we don’t know which way to look, the answer is to look up. Because God’s love “is better than life,” we can do what Winans learned to do and praise Him even through the hard times.

She previously spoke with TBN about the life-changing power of Jesus.
“When Jesus shows up, everything changes,” Winans explained. “If you’re hopeless, He gives you hope. If you’re down, He lifts you up, and He gives you life.”
“He is a life-giver. So, I always tell people it’s not about religion. It’s about a relationship,” she continued. “When you let Jesus into your heart and you allow Him to be the Lord of your life, then He’s going to change your life, and He’ll give you abundant life.”
