HGTV Star Heartbroken Over LA Fires, Prays for God’s Peace
By Movieguide® Contributor
FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs is praying for those in California who have lost their homes.
“While our little town was blanketed in a whisper-quiet blanket of snow, other communities were being charred under the hot torrent of flames,” Marrs shared Jan. 11. “It’s hard to understand how both can be happening at the same time. Suffering and compassion. Joy and sorrow. Pain and mercy.”
“I have been holding the families and first responders and business owners and school teachers and friends in Southern California closely in prayer as I watch the footage of what looks more like a Hollywood film than reality,” she said. “I have been checking in on friends and reading the stories and remembering all of the times I have spent in the places that are now unrecognizable.”
As someone who knows the value of homes well, Marrs thoroughly understands the depth of loss the victims of the fires are experiencing.
“Yes, homes can be rebuilt. But, gracious the loss is so immense. I say it all the time: a home is more than four walls and a roof,” she explained.
“Our home is our safe place, our refuge from the harsh world outside. Photos hang on the walls, beloved stuffed animals wait on the beds, a Bible remains steadfast on the nightstand, treasured books on the shelves, cherished dishes passed down from Grandma in the cabinet.”
She shared her prayer for the victims, that they’d find strength in God in their time of distress.
“It’s just so immensely heartbreaking and devastating to try to comprehend what these families are walking through right now. May the people of California and all who have friends and family there feel His love today despite the fear and sorrow they are facing,” she said. “May His peace and protective embrace cover them physically and spiritually. 🙏🤍 (I’ll continue to share trusted resources in my stories).”

As of Jan. 14, 24 people have died from the fires in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and thousands have lost their homes and buildings.
The Washington Post reported, “Rich Thompson, an incident meteorologist for the Palisades Fire — the largest of the four fires now burning — said the gusty Santa Ana winds, coupled with low humidity and tinder-dry brush, mean the conditions are ‘critical.’ Firefighters are attempting to prevent that fire from reaching Brentwood, home to the Getty Center, and Interstate 405. The cause of the wildfires — forecast to be the costliest blaze in U.S. history — is unknown.”
FIXER TO FABULOUS displays how homes are more than a structure for the show’s subjects — they’re a dwelling place, where they find peace and comfort.
Marrs shared from Season 7’s first episode, which aired Jan. 7: “Last night’s episode was all about honoring the Jennings’ family’s story. Matt and Farrah wanted to stay in this house (one in a long line of many military-based moves) and turn it into a home that feels peaceful as they continue to navigate life after the loss of their beloved daughter, Hannah. This home is now a refuge for them – where they can breathe and heal – while continuing to honor beautiful Hannah and their family heritage for many generations before them.”
“I always say that a home is more than four walls and a roof. The memories created here have been both wonderful and devastating. It was an honor to physically lighten this home (layers and layers of heaviness with brick and trim) and feel the exhale in the air. I pray Matt and Farrah have many joyful years here as they hold their daughter’s memory close and step forward with hope. 🤍”
