Chris Evans officially said goodbye to his role in the Marvel universe a few years ago, but the CAPTAIN AMERICA star recently admitted he feels “sad to be away” from the franchise.
“I mean, it’s sad to be away,” he told ScreenRant. “It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible, and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”
Right now, many of Evans’ former Marvel co-stars are working on AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, which will see Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and Robert Downey Jr. appear.
Many are holding out hope that Evans will somehow cameo in the upcoming movie, similar to how he reprised his 2005 role as FANTASTIC FOUR’s Johnny Storm in last year’s DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE. However, Evans has made it clear that isn’t happening.
“That’s not true, though,” he told Esquire when asked about a story Deadline ran that confirmed his involvement in DOOMSDAY. “This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years — ever since ENDGAME. I’ve just stopped responding to it.”
Instead, Evans is currently hard at work promoting his latest project, a romcom titled MATERIALISTS. He appears alongside fellow superhero stars Dakota Johnson, who played the titular character in MADAME WEB, and Pedro Pascal, who will star as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in this summer’s THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS.

The actor has plenty of practice acting like a swoon-worthy romcom lead in his real life. Evans recently revealed the sweet way he proposed to his wife, Alba Baptista.
“I proposed to my now-wife in Portuguese — she’s Portuguese,” he told The Knot. “So I learned how to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. And I had practiced all week.”
The actor added that he got “really nervous” when it came time to propose, joking, “I actually think I screwed it up.”
Whether or not he delivered his proposal in perfect Portuguese, Baptista said “yes,” and the pair have been happily married since 2023. Now, Evans is looking ahead to their future as a couple and family.
“That’s absolutely something I want: wife, kids, building a family,” Evans told PEOPLE. “When you read about most of the best artists, whether it’s actors, painters, writers, most of them [admit] it wasn’t the work they made [that they are most proud of], it was about the relationships; the families they created, the love they found, the love they shared.”
He continued, “Those things are the most important. I love the idea of tradition and ceremony. I had a lot of that in my life, so the idea of creating that — I can’t think of anything better.”
Evans might have left his MCU family behind, but the actor is more than ready to begin a family with Baptista.
