Hoda Kotb Says Daughter ‘On The Mend’ After Hospitalization

By Movieguide® Contributor

Hoda Kotb recently updated fans on her daughter Hope’s health after she was hospitalized earlier this year.

“I wrote this a while ago, before Hope was, you know, got sick and is on the mend and all that stuff,” Kotb said while announcing the launch of her latest book, “Hope is a Rainbow.”

Kotb shared that the book was based on Hope, adding, “I had dreamt of her and hoped for her and her name just fell in.”

“It just reminds me—and she just reminds me—that hope is all around every corner. No matter what you go through, no matter what hardship you endure, there she is,” the TODAY anchor explained.

In another interview, Kotb said Hope is “so inspiring.”

“She’s a little child but with a real kind of old spirit, an old soul. There’s something about her in how she sees magic in everything,” she continued.

Movieguide® previously reported on Hope’s hospitalization:

“My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for and then in the hospital for a little over a week,” she shared. “I’m so grateful she’s home, she is back home. I was waiting for that day to come, and we are watching her closely…”

“I’m grateful for the doctors at Weill Cornell who were amazing and the nurses,” she concluded. “And I’m grateful for my family and I’m grateful to friends like you [co-host Savannah Guthrie] who were there every single day. So I want to say thank you for that. I love you.”

While Hope is home and happy, Kotb said there is a “longer road” ahead as she continues to recover.

“She has taught me that you’re stronger than you think you are,” Kotb said, reflecting on Hope’s response to her hospitalization. “She has that ability to be optimistic and hopeful no matter what kind of challenges lay before you. She’s taught me that resilience comes in all kinds of packages and that kids are incredibly strong. She’s also taught me to find wonder in the smallest things.”
