Hollywood Attacks Texas Governor After He States Transgender Procedures Are ‘Child Abuse’

By Cooper Dowd, Staff Writer

In September, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott passed an abortion law that bans abortion after six weeks and allows any citizen to sue someone who performs, or helps perform, an abortion.

To the chagrin of the mainstream media, Hollywood—which is vocally pro-abortion in their content—did not organize a large-scale boycott in Texas.

“While Hollywood power players have used their platforms in recent years to denounce controversial laws and state policies, they’ve been curiously reluctant to mess with Texas,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner and James Hibberd wrote.

However, after a new proposition from Abbott regarding “child abuse” by gender-affirming care for transgender children, some outlets want Hollywood to fully condemn Texas’ leadership.

On Feb. 22, Abbott wrote to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Commissioner Jaime Masters to “conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of any reported instances of these abusive procedures in the State of Texas.”

Abbott included the opinion of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton:

Each of the “sex change” procedures and treatments enumerated above, when performed on children, can legally constitute child abuse under several provisions of chapter 261 of the Texas Family Code.

When considering questions of child abuse, a court would likely consider the fundamental right to procreation, issues of physical and emotional harm associated with these procedures and treatments, consent laws in Texas and throughout the country, and existing child abuse standards.

However, some Hollywood actors’ and actresses’ responses to the letter showed that child safety is the last thing on their minds.

Actor Alex Winter wrote on Twitter: “Texas is starting with a direct attack on the Trans community, and it will only grow from there. That’s how fascism works. Don’t think that you or your loved ones are safe.”

“Conservative officials in Texas and other states across the country should stop inserting themselves into health care decisions that create needless tension between pediatricians and their patients. No parent should face the agony of a politician standing in the way of accessing life-saving care for their child,” Karine Jean-Pierre, a deputy principal press secretary for the White House, told The Dallas Morning News:

“This is a real fight,” actress Melanie Lynskey said. “We need elected officials working, truly working, to protect trans kids and to protect all trans people.”

Unfortunately, the same proponents for a trans-child’s right to choose do not apply the same standard of “care” for the millions of babies that are aborted in the United States each year.

Lynskey proves that trans-rights advocates truly defend the identifying label over the child in her use of the phrase “trans kids.”

Moreover, medical experts note that gender-affirming surgeries do more harm than good for children, plunging them prematurely into a culture that hypersexualizes their identity.

Recently, children networks like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network have promoted values contrary to the Bible and what God tells us about gender and sex.

The entertainment industry has conflated inclusivity and morals in the past. However, it is especially disheartening for children to be the victims of a movement that neglects the Bible and indoctrinates children through the media’s perversion.

In 2020, a 60 MINUTES segment featured four ex-transgender children who talked about how their transition harmed their mental health and even made them consider suicide.

Movieguide® previously reported:

The LGBTQ community expressed their anger over a recent 60 MINUTES segment on CBS that highlighted the stories of detransitioners and the danger of transgender medicalization.

Detransitioners are individuals who abandoned their transgender identity and want to live as their biological sex.

The segment comes after the promotion of several state legislations that would prohibit and restrict experimental medications and cosmetic gender surgery on minors.

CBS’s coverage of the issue could mark a shift in the transgender debate.

“I didn’t get enough pushback on transitioning. I went for two appointments and after the second one, I had my letter to go get on cross-sex hormones,” said a young man named Garrett from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Garrett continued by saying that while many transgender advocates claim that the lack of an opportunity to transition results in higher suicide rates, he experienced more severe depression post-surgery.

“I had never really been suicidal before until I had my breast augmentation,” Garrett said. “And about a week afterward, I wanted to actually kill myself. I had a plan and I was going to do it but I just kept thinking about my family to stop myself.”

Grace Lidinsky-Smith, who transitioned and detransitioned in less than one year, noted that her change in identity made her question who she was as a human rather than giving her assurance.

“I can’t believe I transitioned then detransitioned, including hormones and surgery, in the course of like, less than one year,” Lidinsky-Smith said. “[I] started to have a really disturbing sense that, like, a part of my body was missing, almost a ghost limb feeling about being like, there’s something that should be there.”

When it comes to identity, Movieguide® is adamant about media discernment. What we watch and what we let our children watch has a significant effect on how they see the world and themselves.

At the issue’s core, Abbott’s letter received backlash because sinful humans look to find identity within themselves instead of looking outside of themselves at their Creator.

Through biblical, moral, and faith-filled content, we have the opportunity to protect children and teach them that true satisfaction can only come from Christ.

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20 ESV
