Hollywood Superstar Thankful for Her New Life in Montana

’80s icon Glenn Close shared that she enjoys her new life living in Montana, away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and the freedom from its toxic environment.

“Today, my home is in Bozeman, Montana. All of my siblings live here. My modest 1892 brick house has a porch where I can see the mountains and say hi to neighbors,” Close told The Wall Street Journal.

“I’m building a larger house about a half-hour outside of town,” she added, revealing an even greater desire for peace and quiet. “It’s going to be my zen farmhouse and our family sanctuary. In back will be a stone cottage, reminding me of the best years of my childhood.”

Close moved to Bozeman in 2019, leaving her busy New York life behind. The decision to relocate to Montana came from a desire to be close to family, as her sister and two brothers were already out there.

“All of us congregating here stems from the fact that we lost each other for most of our adult life. We were scattered and before the arrival of iPhones and texting, we didn’t have a culture in our family of calling each other on a regular basis or even writing letters,” Close told Montana Outlaw in 2021.

“My sisters and their families have gone through things and we’ve had a lot of catching up to do,” she continued. “There’s a mutual feeling, I think, that we’re making up for lost time and kind of deriving joy out of the mundane. I had never seen much of the mundane side of life.”

Her love of nature and desire to build a legacy brought her back to the state.

“When I was little, I got solace in nature and that has never changed,” Close said, per Realtor. “I always tried to create that same potential for my family, especially now to come back here and be with my siblings and have a piece of land outside of town that will always be here for my daughter and her children. That’s my legacy.”

Though Close has continued her acting career, taking on roles in new movies, she makes sure she is never away from Montana for long as it has become the only place she wants to be.

“I shot a film in Canada during the winter. It was fun and lovely but I was homesick, and I never used to get homesick,” Close shared. “Not only is Bozeman my home but I couldn’t wait to get back here. When I left to go to that job, [sisters] Jessie and Tina were there to see me off at the airport. It was so great. I’ve come to realize how much I dread going away.”
