How a Real Estate Deal Brought Korn’s Brian ‘Head’ Welch to Faith

Heavy metal guitarist Brian “Head” Welch explained how being invited to church by business associates saved him from drug addiction and brought him into a life-altering relationship with Christ.

“I got to this point where I was on that two-year binge, right, and I wanted to get clean,” Welch told TBN. “I had talked to a couple of outpatient rehab places, one in Bakersfield and one in Hollywood, and they both were telling me, ‘We don’t have as much success with meth addicts as we do with other drug addicts.’ And I’m just going, ‘Wow, so what are you telling me? What can you do for me?’ And they [were] like, ‘We can try, you know, we just have to be honest with you and you can do it, you know, if you [set your mind to it].’ So, I wasn’t given a lot of hope.”

“By that time, I was like, I do not want to exist anymore. I am a shell walking around with nothing of substance inside, and I’ve got all kinds of money in the bank, but I just don’t want to wake up when I go to sleep,” he continued. “I just wish I could stay asleep. The only thing that made me want to breathe and live was my daughter.”

“So I’m thinking, I just need to get off the drugs so I can just be the best person I can be for her,” Welch added. “But then I would have the thoughts when I got back on the drugs or did another line and that would wear off, man, she’s better off without me. And I’d start going through the suicidal thoughts and everything. So, it was a tug of war.”

While Welch faced this situation, he became friends with real estate investors he had met while golfing. Because he was interested in growing his wealth, Welch began meeting with them to discuss a deal, and after the arrangement went through, the investors invited Welch to church.

Although Welch had no interest in becoming a Christian, he accepted their offer, simply so he could be around a community of sober people.

“And then I get there, and I hear about this Jesus Christ who is real. The Son of God who was here and, you know, died on the cross and raised from the dead and would come to live inside of me,” Welch said.

“But I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around, so, this guy came and walked on the earth in a robe and did miracles and then died on the cross and then raised back to life and now He’s gonna come live inside of me? I’m like, how does that happen?” he continued.

“But, you know, you could feel the presence and everything at the church they took me to, and I’m like, man, these people are either crazy or they have the meaning of life…I just raised my hand, and I went home, and I started praying to God like I had been a Christian for 20 years,” Welch added. “I was desperate.”

Welch’s life was forever changed that day as he began his journey to sobriety, filling the emptiness in his heart with the Lord.

Movieguide® reported, “Welch initially left Korn when he came to Christ, but later felt God leading him back to the band in 2013. While he admits the ‘music’s crazy,’ he says it comes from a ‘real and raw place,’ and now he wants to use that connection to share the gospel with his fans.”

After taking time back from music, he now tours with Korn, serving as a light with his bandmates and fans who have yet to know the Lord.

Earlier this year, he celebrated his “spiritual birthday.”

“Happy spiritual birthday to me,” Welch captioned the post with a picture of his baptism on Instagram.“People thought it was a practical joke, but what happened on the inside of me was no joke at all and it is just as powerful and secure today – 19 years later!”

Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch recently shared how a prayer from when he was 12 brought him back to Christ years later.

Growing up, Welch’s family attended church sporadically, but he never learned anything about God. However, the summer before high school, he experienced God’s character through a friend.

“When I turned 12, I was getting bullied and stuff and, you know, it was just I had a really hard time with peers,” he recalled. “I met this kid that lived down the street and we became good friends.”

“It was right before high school and this guy was named Kevin and his family were Christians,” Welch continued. “[He’s] the only friend in that town that really didn’t like turn on me and kind of pick on me, you know, he was just nice all the time.”

Kevin and his family shared with him that Christ was the Savior of the world.

“[Sometime later], I was at home watching some horror flick, and it was, I know it was the Holy Spirit now, but I just stopped, and I was like, if there’s a savior, I should probably ask him in my heart,” Welch said.
