How This NFL Pro Is Giving God All The Glory

Defensive end Will Anderson Jr. helped bring the Houston Texans a win after their match with the Chicago Bears on Sunday, but he isn’t taking any of the credit.

“First I just got to give all the glory to God, man,” he told a reporter after the game. “His favor is upon this team, man. And He’s just working in mysterious ways, so He gets all the praise and worship.”

“And this team man, [is] special. Special group of guys,” he continued. “And we tell each other that all the time man, and we’re chasing something big, and when everybody has the same mentality, good things happen.”

The 23-year-old feels blessed and supported by the Texan’s loyal fans, who cheered him on even as he talked to the reporter.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “It’s a blessing, man.”

“I can’t take credit for it. I got to give it to God, man. These awesome fans that come out to support us, they could be doing anything, but they love Houston. They love our team and we’re so appreciative of them,” he said.

Movieguide® reported on Anderson’s faith in July:

Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson has already established himself as one of the best defenders in the league after only one season, but rather than focus on his success, he’s keeping his eyes on Christ.

“My focus is just less on what everybody has to say and more on God. I think my biggest thing is knowing that, like I always tell y’all, my approval comes from Him,” Anderson told reporters as his team entered preseason training. “Ultimately, everything that I achieve in this lifetime, I’m putting Him first for it, because He’s the reason why I’m here.”

“I think that’s the difference,” he continued. “Like, this year I’m like, ‘God, whether it’s a good game or bad game — anything — You’re gonna get the praise and the glory for it. I’m gonna let You use me however You want to use me each game.’ I just want to be a servant, be a leader and be a blessing to my teammates and help them out in any type of way. So that’s my whole thing coming into this year. It’s like, ‘God, however You want to use me, I just want to be a blessing to this team.’”

As a truly selfless player, when Anderson isn’t on the pro field, he’s on the practice field teaching youth football camps.

He recently partnered with Houston Methodist Church to do a series called “Iron Sharpens Iron” which documents Anderson as he instructs kids how to play and practice well.

Of hosting camps, he said, “It’s a privilege and a blessing to do this.”
