How Parenthood Changed Katy Perry’s Perspective on Her Mom
By Movieguide® Contributor
Pop star Katy Perry says her respect for her mother skyrocketed after having her daughter.
“After having my child — I always respected my mother — but the level of respect for my mother, my parents in general, it just went through the roof,” Perry said while appearing on a podcast, joking, “Because I was like, ‘How did you keep us alive? Without iPads?’”
Perry shares daughter Daisy, 4, with fiancée Orlando Bloom.
The singer continued, “I do think my parents, with the tools that they had and their own upbringings, really did the best that they could. And my mother, you know, she is a saint. She sacrificed every step of the way. She was the last to sit at the dinner table every single time.”
Perry and Bloom keep their daughter out of the spotlight and off of their social media pages, but the pop star has shared some details about Daisy.
In an interview with British Vogue, she revealed her daughter is “super obsessed with Peppa Pig,” which is what led to her accepting a voice acting role in the show as Mrs. Leopard.
“I just did it so I could get points with my daughter,” Perry joked. “I need more and more and more points.”
During a 2023 live performance, she spoke about the impact motherhood has had on her.
“I created this show after the birth of my daughter, Daisy Dove,” she said during the concert. “When I met her, it was like all the love I was ever searching for finally showed up. She made me whole, and she healed me, and she showed me how to play again.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the joy Perry has found in being a parent:
Nearly six months ago, award-winning singer Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom welcomed their first daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. According to Perry, parenthood has already impacted their lives as she prioritizes Daisy.
“She changed my life and still continues to change my life,” Perry reflected in an Instagram story. “I think that you realize that when you become a mother… you just have to focus on being a mom. And it’s not because you don’t love other people, it’s not because of anything besides you just want to be a great mom.”
Perry noted that her relationship with her daughter has become even more important to her than her successful music career.
“So a lot of stuff falls away when you become a mom and it is the best job in the world,” Perry said. “I highly recommend it when you’re ready.”
Perry said she’s also finding joy in watching her little baby grow.
“I see my daughter change so much in the past five months and looking back at photos it’s like, ‘Whoa,’” Perry said. “You see time in human form and it’s like… Now she’s got chunky cheeks.”
Perry continued: “In a way, it’s really encouraged me to be even more present and to value every day. And all we have is this moment. That’s what’s promised is this moment and nothing else.”
