Ja’Kobe Walter gave God the glory after he was selected as the 19th overall pick at the 2024 NBA Draft.

“All glory to God,” Walter said following his draft to the Toronto Raptors. “He got me here. It’s just been a long journey. My family supported me the whole way, so it’s just a very emotional moment.”

“I prayed so many times for just this moment right here, so now that it’s finally here, it’s just dreams into reality,” he said in a separate interview. “And I’m just grateful.”

He’s never been to Canada before, but the athlete is ready for whatever comes his way.

“I’ve never even been to Canada before,” he admitted. “This is gonna be my first time, but I’m just super excited for everything, honestly. I know the fanbase is great, a lot of support. We’re trying to win championships.”

“Just try to make an impact in any way I can,” Walters explained of how he hopes to help the team. “Whatever they need me to do coming in, I’m gonna do it for them. Really just try to bring that winning intensity.”

Before the Raptors, Walter left his mark on Baylor University’s basketball team.

“Walter’s one season at Baylor saw him start all 35 games he played, lead the Bears in points per game (14.5), snag 4.4 rebounds per game, and dish out 1.4 assists per game. The consensus five-star recruit shot 37.6% overall (34.1% on 3-pointers) and 79.2% from the free-throw line. For his efforts, Walter was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the third-team All-Big 12 as the Bears went 24-11,” Sports Spectrum reported.
