Jane Fonda Is ‘Feeling So Blessed’ After News That Her Cancer Is In Remission

Jane Fonda has just received “the best birthday present ever” — her cancer is in remission!
“Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate,” Fonda wrote on Instagram. “I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news.”
The actress also shared that the news made her “especially happy” because she had been struggling with chemotherapy treatments.
Fonda revealed she had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in September.
“This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky,” she wrote at the time. “I’m also lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments. I realize, and it’s painful, that I am privileged in this. Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many don’t have access to the quality health care I am receiving and this is not right.”
She continued, “Cancer is a teacher and I’m paying attention to the lessons it holds for me. One thing it’s shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one’s community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age –almost 85– definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.”
Fonda previously beat cancer on two other occasions — in 2010, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a tumor removed before it could spread, and in 2018, she had a cancerous growth removed from her lip.
Now that her cancer is in remission, Fonda is ready to celebrate her birthday and the upcoming Christmas season.
“My family will be there. My daughter and grandkids will come in from Vermont, and my son and his wife and child live in Los Angeles, and a few friends will come over,” she said of her 85th birthday plans. “We’ll just have a quiet time.”
