‘Angels in This World’: Actress Takes in Former Costar Who Lost Home to LA Fires

Despite losing his home in the LA fires, Joe Lando is grateful for what he has and those around him willing to help, including friend and former DR.QUINN: MEDICINE WOMAN costar Jane Seymour.

“The Lando family is intact. All of us and our dogs and our two birds, thankfully, there are angels in this world,” Lando said in an emotional Instagram video. “We’re left with nothing except each other. My friend Jane Seymour allowed us to come over to her house and opened it up for us without any hesitation and thank God [she] gave us someplace to come and sleep.”

The fires that started Tuesday, Jan. 7, have so far displaced 100,000 people and killed at least 24, with the threat of new fires in the area.

Lando said that the fires affected his costar’s neighborhoods as well, with the electricity being out for three days, calling the disaster “indescribable.”

“There hasn’t been any gas and you can’t drink the water and you can’t breathe the air because it’s all poisonous. I’ve never been through anything like this,” he said.

The 63-year-old said that the infernos also destroyed his children’s school and destroyed his in-laws’ house of about forty years as well. He pointed out that it wasn’t just celebrities’ homes that were lost.

“There’s a lot of wealthy people in my neighborhood, but that’s not the majority of this neighborhood. Most are just hard-working folks [who have] lived there for generations,” the father-of-four said.

“Everything’s gone,” Lando went on to say. “And there’s no rich or poor, black or white, red or blue. This fire’s evil and it will kill everything.”

Seymour encouraged others in a post to help those affected by the fires.

“Let’s keep the spirit of compassion alive: donate supplies to evacuation centers, check in on neighbors who might need help, or support organizations providing relief,” Seymour posted. “Even the smallest act of kindness can make a world of difference. Together, with open hearts, we will face this moment.”

Other Californians are helping those displaced by the LA fires. Pastor Greg Laurie’s church Harvest Christian Fellowship is bringing medical support, generators and biblical resources.

Laurie encouraged people to “keep praying and holding onto hope.”

“The devil wants us to abandon hope, to give in to despair and discouragement. But God calls us to do the opposite-to abandon hopelessness and cling to Him, the source of all hope,” he posted on Instagram. “Remember, with God, nothing is impossible! Keep believing, keep trusting, and keep hoping.”

Actress Candace Cameron Bure partnered with rental designer shop OpenClosit in Santa Monica to provide needed items for victims.

Bure, who lived in the Pacific Palisades, one of the major areas hit by the fires, for about 30 years, shared her gratitude for the firefighters, and encouragement for those who lost their homes.

“My heart is so heavy. Just sharing my emotions and stories here. I am in deep prayer for the communities, people and friends who have lost everything from the fires,” Bure wrote on Instagram. “And also the [heroes] who are helping. I sit in grief with you. I kneel in prayer with you. I hold you tightly. May God comfort you in … ways that surpass understanding.”
