FIXER TO FABULOUS co-host Jenny Marrs shared an emotional message on Instagram on the anniversary of her daughter Sylvie’s adoption — and in the aftermath of the devastating Texas floods.
Marrs wrote, “I know how desperately I wanted to hold my girl again in those years of waiting and, today, I can only think of the mommas in Texas who will only do so on the other side of Eternity. My heart grieves for them so deeply and I post this with so much love and sensitivity. I hold the joy of this day with the reality of grief earthside.”
Sylvie’s adoption 11 years ago was nothing short of a miracle, Jenny and her husband Dave recalled in a PEOPLE article.
When the couple struggled to start their own family, they decided to adopt. Jenny’s pregnancy in the middle of the process put a pause on the adoption. Three children later, they visited the Congo and immediately fell in love with orphan Sylvie. However, soon after the adoption papers were in place, the country restricted already-adopted children from leaving.
Despite every effort to get their daughter to them — from contacting congressmen to sending letters — the couple felt powerless. Dave said, “It was heart-wrenching. There was nothing we could do.” A miracle happened when, 602 long days later, Sylvie was allowed to travel to the U.S. due to a medical condition.
Jenny recalled the moment she “bore witness to a miracle. An honest to goodness God-sized, Red-Sea-parting kind of miracle…I never want to forget the way the Lord fought on our behalf. The things He has in store for Sylvie must certainly leave the enemy shaking in fear or else he wouldn’t have worked so tirelessly to keep her from us.”
Followers echoed her heartfelt sentiments on the joys of adoption and their incredible journey.
One user writes,” ♥️so much love in the Marrs family. Thank you for spreading pure joy with each glimpse into your life. I am a forever fan. ♥️” A mother who has similarly experienced the difficulties with international adoption is grateful “to see those miracles in our kids’ lives unfold… [It’s] remarkable that He chose us to parent. Yes we are the lucky ones.”
One user opened up, sharing how emotional it is to hear this story, and how, “in the context of this weekend, oh Jenny. Words fail.”
For the grieving families of the floods, Jenny shared the Bible verse whose promise of God she holds dear: “He will remove all of their sorrows, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.” (Rev 21:4a NLT)
Jenny and Dave’s inspirational story of adoption shows their resilience and faith in the Lord, even in the most hopeless of times.
