JESUS REVOLUTION Inspiration is Still Saving Souls

By Movieguide® Contributor

Pastor Greg Laurie, the inspiration for JESUS REVOLUTION, has hosted “Harvest Crusades” for 34 years and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon, even now at age 71.

“We have seen God change lives over the years in supernatural ways,” he said of why he continues to hold the events. “Marriages are healed, addictions are overcome, suicidal people are given new hope, and the list goes on. But the most important thing for all those who have prayed to ask Jesus into their life down on that field after the invitation or altar call, as it is sometimes called, is this: their eternal address changed from Hell to Heaven,” he said.

Laurie explained the Gospel’s power by quoting Romans 1:16:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The pastor explained that not sharing the Good News is actually a sin and an act of disobedience to God.

“If we as Christians believe in an afterlife, specifically Heaven and Hell, how can we sit by complacently, knowing that we have loved ones who could potentially face a future judgment?” Laurie asked. “The Bible says, ‘It is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it’ (James 4:17 NLT).”

Because of this, Laurie continues to host Harvest Crusades, where thousands of people come to hear the Gospel and are given the opportunity to accept Jesus as their Savior. Although months of planning and hard work are involved, he believes it is worth it “because of the power of the gospel.”

Last year’s JESUS REVOLUTION portrayed the beginning of Laurie’s ministry and his involvement in the Jesus Revolution movement which took place in California in the ’60s and ’70s.

Movieguide® praised its “Extremely Christian worldview,” and it earned a Teddy Bear Award®. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

JESUS REVOLUTION is incredibly well made and captivating. It has many scenes with jeopardy and inspiring, well-written presentations of Jesus’ Gospel. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution because the movie accurately depicts the drug scene from an impartial viewpoint that might attract younger children. The movie also shows Greg Laurie’s mother’s constant drunkenness and philandering. The immoral behavior is part of the true stories in JESUS REVOLUTION, which, to an amazing degree, have been made into an exciting, cohesive, uplifting movie.

“Thanks to @movieguide for presenting @jesusrevolutionmovie the award for ‘Best movie for mature audiences,’” Laurie posted following the movie’s win at Movieguide®’s Awards Gala. “The greatest reward however of seeing this story of the JESUS REVOLUTION brought to the screen has been the countless lives that have been impacted and changed after watching it.”
