Jim Gaffigan’s 12-year-old son Patrick opened up about what it’s like having a famous comedian for his dad.
“I’m aware my dad occasionally comes on the show and complains about how difficult it is to be the father of five children,” Patrick, the youngest of Gaffigan’s kids, said on CBS SUNDAY MORNING. “I wonder whose fault that is. Here’s a hint. It’s his.”
The funny video shows clips of Gaffigan joking about the difficulties of fatherhood. In one clip, he says, “I have five children. That means I’ve been sitting through horrible kids movies for 15 years — a decade and a half, of torture.”
In another clip, Gaffigan says, “Yes, my beautiful, intelligent children struggle with keeping a phone charged. Well, I shouldn’t say struggle. They make no effort.”
Patrick continued, “Well, today I’m here to present our rebuttal. I’d like to talk to you about the struggles of being one of the offspring of this guy. Having Jim Gaffigan as a dad is not all rainbows and hot pockets, folks. He’s too strict.”
He continued, “I could go on, but my biggest issue is when people tell me I look like my dad. ‘Oh, you look just like your father.’ Are you trying to ruin my day? I know I look like my dad, and it’s probably why I smoke cigars,” he joked. “Don’t tell my parents that.”
Gaffigan posted a clip of the video to Instagram, saying, “That apple fell pretty close to this tree.” Fans loved seeing that Patrick shares the same sense of humor as his dad.
One user commented, “Your son stole the show today! Sorry Jim! Please bring him back again as he is a mini you!!” Another person added, “Fantastic job Patrick! We know you’re the kid behind the man!”
Gaffigan shares his five kids — Marre, 21, Jack, 19, Katie 16, Michael, 13, and Patrick, 12 — with his wife Jeannie Gaffigan
“I have five because I’m secretly starting my own nationality,” he joked with PEOPLE, adding that each child “has made me a more decent person and a better person, and based on that, all I would need is 34 more to be a decent guy.”
He continued, “I come from a big family and my wife comes from a big family. I think there’s a lot of value in sibling chaos. But it’s a lot of organizing, it’s like a circus.”
Recently, Gaffigan shared TODAY what his five children do during the summer.
“I’m always pushing for camp. And my wife’s like, don’t you want them around? I’m like, ‘not really, but I love them.’ But, like, summer camp is good. It’s good for them. It teaches independence, but it’s, it’s always, never long enough,” he joked.
There’s certainly lots of laughter in the Gaffigan home.
