Jonathan Roumie Announces Next Faith-Based Project

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie announced that his newest project, a documentary chronicling the incredible life and faith of Father Edward J. Flanagan, will be releasing soon.

“My friends!!! I am thrilled to introduce you to my latest project – a compelling and powerful documentary called HEART OF A SERVANT,” Roumie announced across social media. “It’s the true story of a revolutionary. But WHO that revolutionary is might surprise you, and the way he brought about transformation will inspire you.”

“Early in the 20th century, Irish Immigrant Father Edward J. Flanagan stood against the societal norms of his time to fight poverty, racism, child labor and injustice. Some even labeled him ‘dangerous’ for the ways in which he stood up for those who opposed his efforts,” Roumie continued. “Some of you may have seen the film BOYSTOWN, starring the legendary Spencer Tracy, which told only a snippet of Father Flanagan’s story, but there’s so much more to his incredible life. You will be amazed and moved by what you learn.”

“I was honored to narrate and executive produce this story, and I can’t wait for you to meet Father Flanagan on film and be inspired by this heroic man, just as I have been,” he added.

Father Flanagan was an incredible man of faith who devoted his life to making the light and hope of Jesus known to those overlooked and cast out by society.

“Flanagan gained influence and admiration over the course of his life from Presidents, CEOs, celebrities and more, but none mattered more to him than that of the children for whom he tirelessly worked. A sobering reminder of this was during WWII, as Flanagan saw droves of former Boys Town citizens go off to war. In fact, so many former Boys Town boys named Father Flanagan as their next of kin that the American War Dads Association named him as America’s No. 1 War Dad,” Fathom Events said.

The documentary explores the legacy he left on those he impacted while also sharing the struggles he faced along the way.

HEART OF A SERVANT features footage of Father Flanagan along with explanations from historical experts and discussions of the profound, far-reaching impact he had on all of America, all while being narrated by Roumie.

The documentary will be in theaters for one day – Oct. 8.

Movieguide® previously reported on Roumie:

Jonathan Roumie’s big break in acting came when he secured the role of Jesus in the hit TV series THE CHOSEN.

THE CHOSEN’s reach has grown immensely over the years, and so has Roumie’s following.

In an interview with Crosswalk Headlines, the actor explained that the one thing that keeps him grounded is knowing “everything that I have is because of Him.”

“Jesus is the ultimate,” he responded when asked how he remains humble. “And if I’m trying to model my life after Him, He was the supreme example of humility. You look at the cross. There’s no one that was more humble than He was. And so I have to remember that everything that I have is because of Him — everything that I went through was to get to this point where I surrendered to Him. And as a result, He’s taken me out of the pit and put me here with you guys and [director] Dallas [Jenkins] and [actress] Liz [Tabish] and an incredible place.”
